Data Engineering manages the code, pipelines, and infrastructure that extract, process, and prepare every piece of data generated or consumed by Grab's systems. We are a diverse team of software engineers that not only works to solve a variety of data-related problems faced by teams across Grab but also acts as a bridge connecting everyone through data.

Get to Know the Role

You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager and be based onsite in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. You will automate multiple big data flows, performance engineering, and building the internal big data pipeline platform to maintain the quality of our critical our data. We offer the opportunity to work with a world-class engineering team managing petabytes of data in Southeast Asia.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• Improve and Build: Design and implement scalable and maintainable RESTful API services that power our groundbreaking products.
• Architect Excellence: Develop efficient backend services that form the backbone of our advanced data platform.
• Collaborate and Create: Define operating procedures and set up service monitors and alerts, working with our dedicated infrastructure team to bring your ideas to life.
• Lead and Inspire: Play a crucial role in planning, providing technical consultation, and driving the design and testing efforts of intricate engineering projects.
• Ensure Quality: Recreate complex customer and production-reported issues to identify causes and verify solutions, ensuring our customers receive the best experience possible.

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• 1+ years of data engineering experience
• Proficient programming skills in any of the following languages: Python, Golang, Scala, Java, with a solid foundation in system design.
• Hands-on experience deploying applications to production (e.g., databases, REST APIs).
• Familiarity with the modern big data ecosystem, such as Kubernetes (K8s), Spark, Trino, Airflow, Kafka.
• Basic knowledge of at least one modern JavaScript framework: React, Vue.js, Angular.
• Proficient knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
