Job Summary:
The Demurrage Team provides outstanding service to Trading & Shipping for handling demurrage and shipping-related ancillary charges. We are experts in the calculation and payment of freight, negotiation of demurrage claims, and interpretation of contract clauses to minimize exposure to claims. The Demurrage Negotiator is responsible for managing a portfolio of demurrage claims and post-fixture expenses, working closely with the Trading & Shipping community to provide analytical information and guidance to reduce the risk of demurrage exposure and optimize trading profits.

Job Description

• Manage a portfolio of barge/vessel claims to ensure timely responses and claims closure.
• Calculate, prepare, and verify freight, shipping expenses, and demurrage claims/invoices.
• Ensure adherence to contractual time bar clauses to minimize commercial loss.
• Investigate and gather data from Traders, Operators, and Advisors to assess demurrage claims.
• Negotiate disputes with Group companies or Third parties to improve claim value.
• Create and maintain relationships with trading companies and brokers.
• Manage complex negotiations with external counterparties.
• Assign costs accurately to ensure correct profit and loss reflection.
• Provide analytical assessments of outstanding claims/costs to trading benches.
• Identify improvement opportunities and optimize efficiency with teams.
• Drive process optimization and deliver value.
• Provide commercial assistance to oil and ship operators, traders, and charterers.
• Provide training and develop awareness of Demurrage activities within the team.
• Ensure compliance with all client's policies and procedures.
• Collaborate across the Demurrage team to support team delivery.
• Update systems data accurately and supervise data flows.

Qualifications

• Relevant university degree (economy or finance)
• 1-2 years of experience in finance, trading, or shipping
• Experience in a global/multi-national company is an advantage.
• Knowledge of the trading or shipping industry.
• Strong commercial instinct with a focus on delivering integrated value.
• Experience in MNC shared services is required.
• Working hours: 8.30am – 5.30pm
