Objectives of the Position

  • The Customs Functional & Process Design Specialist coordinates business requirements in Customs & Foreign Trade for the corresponding region in close cooperation with Customs Operations and Information Services (IT/IS). In this role, it is important to design and implement IS tools and systems based on requirements for Customs & Foreign Trade Operations and ensure customs compliance in process design.

Main Tasks

Customs Ops IS support and design

  • Design Transactional processes to support any form of savings including duty savings for BASF Group and ensure implementation of necessary related IS solutions.
  • Propose and Optimize the Export and Imports customs declaration process with regards to IS solutions.
  • Manage and coordinate Change Requests from SC Operations and Business units related to Customs & Foreign Trade topics.
  • Support any BASF strategic initiatives, including UAT, IS solution, processes definition to ensure smooth implementation in the area of Customs & Foreign Trade.

Country Customs support

  • Proactively engage country customs to ensure rollout of globally or regionally defined processes.
  • Conduct regional knowledge transfer for country customs during the Business Releases.

Cross functional support and governance

  • Bundle Expert knowledge and foster cross-regional cooperation in Customs & Foreign Trade activities in Supply Chain Operations.
  • Capture and structure all regional operational requirements regarding IS tools and applications, responsible for validating and requesting projects.
  • Safeguard implementation of customs & Foreign Trade regulations into operational IS applications.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).

Working Experience

  • 3-5 years working experience in customs and foreign trade with a company, preferably with international operations.
  • Experience in Supply Chain and/or Export/Import.
  • Experience in deploying IT solutions and processes related to customs & foreign trade.
  • Experience in SAP is a plus, especially GTS and master data.
  • Experience in project management is desirable.
  • Experience in Robotic Process Automation (RPA) related work is a plus.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training.

Technical & Professional Knowledge

  • Good Customs and Foreign Trade knowledge.
  • Good Supply Chain Operations knowledge.
  • Good knowledge in Export/Import Operations.
  • Business Application Knowledge (e.g., SAP in OTC Functions).
