The Clerk of Works – Interior Design (COW - ID) is responsible for overseeing the interior design aspects of a construction project, ensuring that all interior design elements are executed according to the approved plans, specifications, and quality standards. The COW - ID acts as the client’s representative, ensuring that design and construction teams adhere to timelines, budget, and quality expectations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Site Inspections & Quality Control:
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor the implementation of interior design works, ensuring quality and compliance with approved design documents.
- Inspect materials, finishes, and furnishings to verify adherence to design specifications.
- Identify and report any discrepancies between the design and construction, offering solutions where applicable. - Coordination & Communication:
- Coordinate with architects, interior designers, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
- Serve as a liaison between the design team and the construction team, ensuring smooth communication and resolving any issues that arise. - Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain detailed site reports, recording progress, challenges, and any non-compliance or deviations from the original design.
- Ensure that all interior design materials and finishes are sourced and delivered as specified.
- Prepare and submit weekly or monthly progress reports to the client or project manager. - Adherence to Standards:
- Ensure that all interior works meet safety standards and comply with local regulations, codes, and best practices.
- Verify that all materials used are of the specified quality and meet sustainability and environmental standards if applicable. - Defects and Issue Resolution:
- Identify any defects or issues during the construction or post-construction phase and work with contractors to rectify them.
- Assist with snagging and final inspections to ensure all interior design elements are completed satisfactorily before handover. - Budget & Schedule Management:
- Monitor progress in relation to the approved project timeline and budget, ensuring that the interior design works stay on track.
- Flag any delays or potential cost overruns related to the interior design aspect of the project.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Educational Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field. Additional certifications in project management or construction supervision may be advantageous. - Experience:
- Proven experience as a Clerk of Works, Interior Designer, or Project Coordinator within the construction industry, specifically in interior design projects. Typically, at least 5-7 years of experience is required.
- Strong understanding of interior design processes, materials, and installation techniques.
- Familiarity with local building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards. - Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders (designers, clients, contractors).
- Proficient in using project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of construction processes and site management. - Physical Requirements: Ability to work in various site conditions, including heights, confined spaces, and adverse weather.
