- COO’s primary responsibility is for the daily operations of Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital (“MMCH”).
- COO works closely with CEO to develop the palliative and hospice(“PH”) section as well as the Oncology-Palliative Hospice strategy.
- COO reviews important information on the day-to-day administrative and operational function of the hospital and assists CEO.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the CEO to ensure all staff are aligned with Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital’s (“MMCH”) shared vision of providing the best and affordable cancer treatment and care to the local community. Execute the three-year Mission Plan based on the five strategic building blocks of the hospital and leverage on organisation’s strategic enablers namely, finance, infrastructure, technology and partnership.
- Translate strategy into actionable and measurable steps for sustained growth, implementing organisation-wide goal setting, performance management and annual operations planning.
- Oversee the hospital operations and employee productivity, building a highly inclusive culture that ensures the staff serve in accordance with the vision and mission of the hospital.
- Ensure compliance with national and local healthcare regulations and take appropriate timely action when necessary.
- Analyse operations to identify areas for process enhancement.
- Oversee and provide line management for all the departments of the hospital.
- Participate in the ongoing identification of new areas of income, and opportunities for partnerships, to provide financial stability and sustainability of the PH strategy.
- Engage with stakeholders, working with the CEO / ET to provide outreach and awareness programmes so as to extend MMCH’s reach into both the local and foreign patient market.
- Work with the CEO / BOD to manage and develop major strategy decisions, ensuring that due process is applied at all stages of decision-making and full consideration is given to all options.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 10 years in leadership roles and managing cross-functional teams.
- Understands the Malaysian healthcare system and responsibilities to the public, patients and staff.
- Experience of working in the health and social care sector at a senior level, with management experience in palliative and hospice care being a definite advantage.
- A proven track record in sound strategic planning and problem-solving skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of project management, financial management and planning.
- Ability to manage and motivate multi-cultural teams.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including engagement with key stakeholders.
- Experience in managing and leading projects.
- Experience in fund-raising.
- Degree or equivalent qualification, with relevant working experience in a health-related field.

Its origin was a nursing home offering compassionate care to those in the late stages of cancer.
