Hyatt House Kuala Lumpur, Mont Kiara will mark the first Hyatt House hotel in Malaysia and South East Asia. Located in Mont’ Kiara, an affluent suburb located five kilometers from downtown Kuala Lumpur, the hotel will feature approximately 298 guestrooms, a three-meal restaurant, 3,100 square feet of meeting space, a fitness centre, and a sky pool. Scheduled to open in late 2017, the hotel will be part of a larger mixed-use development, Arcoris Mont’ Kiara, which will feature business suites, small home offices (“SoHo”), residential units, and a retail plaza.

We are currently looking for an experienced Chief Engineer - Engineering to lead and be responsible for the Engineering and Safety & Security department. This position reports to the hotel General Manager. We are looking for a person who will embrace this property and care for it so that it will be at its best at all times. A person with immense energy and passion to ensure the hotel operates at its maximum efficiency and pace.

Responsibilities

The Chief Engineer is responsible for leading a team and maintaining all equipment, systems, and building components including, but not limited to:

1. Mechanical and electrical systems
2. Pumps
3. HVAC
4. Refrigeration
5. Plumbing
6. Locks
7. Furniture
8. Paint
9. Wall coverings
10. Tile
11. Information technology

Additionally, the Chief Engineer will be the liaison between facility and service contractors for on-property needs. The individual is also in charge of:

1. Maintaining all equipment in guest rooms
2. Conducting monthly safety inspections
3. Training staff on safety and emergency procedures
4. Working with vendors

The Chief Engineer must be willing to respond to emergencies and work with corporate maintenance on special remodeling projects or capital expenditure needs. In times of need, the Chief Engineer needs to be the primary manager available at unique times of day to handle unexpected emergencies and property malfunctions that affect guests and/or associates.

An individual with a spirit of determination, drive, and desire to complete tasks in an efficient and speedy manner, you will be confident and driven in your approach. You are technically savvy and are known for your ability to communicate and negotiate at all levels, have a strong eye for detail, and must be able to constantly maintain high service standards and problem-solve with employees and guests. You must be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and be constantly hands-on, ready to lend expertise within other departments of the hotel.

Qualifications

Key Qualifications and Requirements:

1. Demonstrate a passion and proven results for coaching and leading hotel team members to achieve team success.
2. Demonstrate an ability to use a building management system in order to make fact-based decisions that helps in the efficient operations of the hotel.
3. Previous hotel experience with hotel properties or serviced residences that have over 230 rooms will be preferred.
4. Previous hotel pre-opening experience in engineering and building operations is a significant advantage.
5. Possess a Degree or Diploma in Engineering studies or technical disciplines.
6. A minimum of 5 years or more work experience in a senior role within an international chain hotel engineering department.
7. Demonstrate the ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
8. Fluent in written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia; additional languages will be an advantage.
9. Demonstrate the ability to manage and lead hotel on-site engineering functions to ensure proper fiscal management, stock management, and accurate reporting.
10. Must have a thorough knowledge of all types of mechanical equipment, plumbing, electrical systems, and maintenance of records of consumption.
11. Experience with hotel security systems and leading security personnel is an additional advantage.
