Job description

About the role
The Banquet Manager oversees and manages the hosting of banquets to provide customers with an excellent experience. Duties include consulting with Head Chefs, determining the number of wait staff, and planning the layout and setup of venues to the highest level of guest expectations. He or she will also ensure adherence to federal, state and local regulations concerning health, safety, and other compliance requirements, as well as brand standards and local policies and procedures. This is a full-time position based in Kuching, Sarawak.

What you'll be doing

  1. Hosting: Lead events and liaise between teams and operation personnel at events, banquets, galas.
  2. Planning: Plan layout and setup of the event.
  3. Budgeting: Develop and manage budgets for each event. Achieve maximum profitability and overall success by controlling costs and quality of service.
  4. Staff management: Managing banquet staff, including hiring and scheduling. Supervise, train and coordinate staff.
  5. Guest issues: Address guest concerns, special requests and resolve issues.
  6. Reports: Maintain records for inventory, labour cost, food cost etc.
  7. SOP: Develop and maintain all department manual & control procedures.
  8. Inventory management: Control of banquet chinaware, cutlery, glassware, linen, equipment and any other related company assets.
  9. Food safety: Ensure that all food and drinks meet quality and safety standards.

What we're looking for

  • Significant experience in a senior banquet or events management role, preferably within the hospitality industry
  • Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and execute successful events and banquets
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on delivering outstanding customer service
  • Proficient in budgeting, cost control, and financial management
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Confident and meticulous
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Thorough understanding of health, safety, and licensing requirements in the hospitality industry
  • Adaptable and able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays, depending on business requirements
