Position Overview

The Automation Engineer is responsible for manufacturing equipment maintenance, OEE, continuous improvement, and reliability. The Automation Engineer must collaborate with the process engineer to resolve equipment and process-related issues and ensure the process remains within a validated state and continues to produce products within acceptable quality limits.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, calibrate, replace, repair, and test process instrumentation, including proximity sensors, temperature & pressure sensors, infrared sensors, servo motors, pneumatic logic systems, and controls, air cylinders, etc.
  • Able to perform the setup and adjustments of machines and equipment as needed.
  • Responsible for replacement, organizing spares, and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and calibrate part handling systems, particularly reel-to-reel systems.
  • Capable of designing and improving existing automation equipment functionality and its mechanical design for betterment of production.
  • Conduct employee training on equipment operations, work instructions, and safety procedures.
  • Work with production operators/Technicians/Engineers to maximize throughput with process improvements.
  • Train and guide the production operator staff on job training.
  • Ensure production quality and safety standards are complied with.
  • Ensure subordinates comply with the required procedures and instructions.
  • Provide production records and other performance indices to the Manager whenever required.
  • Liaise with QA on quality problems and take necessary countermeasures to prevent recurrence.
  • Establish technical manuals, drawings, models, training documentation, preventive maintenance plans, and troubleshooting guides for automated equipment and automated processes.
  • Update production monitoring board for planning, tracking, and status.
  • Assist in training for Automation Technician.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work area.
  • Manage preventive maintenance and calibration schedule. Ensure all equipment's performance is monitored and recorded for continuous improvement and reliability.
  • Ensure all software and hardware of PLC, DCS, VSD, and PC are available and ensure an effective maintenance strategy is in place.
  • Provide feedback to improve the design of automation processes and equipment.
  • Lead and manage a team of technicians towards ensuring all highly automated production equipment is in optimal condition and develop the necessary technical competencies and equipment capabilities to meet operational performance targets.
  • Monitor due dates of deliverables and report any delays.
  • Responsible for tracking, ordering, and organizing automation, electrical, and pneumatic spares.
  • Accurately complete all required paperwork and records such as updating and recording all automation modifications on drawings so they can be updated by the Engineering department.
  • Produce accurate documentation in accordance with Good Documentation Procedures.
  • Ensure the production department gets automation machines up and running as required.
  • Support 5S Quality and continuous improvement efforts by following all approved practices and procedures by performing clean-up activities, and identify and recommend improvements to management.
  • Ensure that all personnel performing production and inspection in the production are properly trained, have the relevant skills and experience, and are aware of EHS hazards and addressing actions.
  • Adhere to the ISO 13485:2016 requirements effectively.
  • Ensure the implementation of the ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 requirements are effectively carried out.
  • Promote and develop a high level of Health, Safety & Environmental awareness and commitment.
  • Ensure that the EHS requirements of the workplace are met.
  • Adhere to safety and health rules and safe systems of work.
  • Wear Personal Protection Equipment.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by management.

Job Requirements & Qualification

  • Degree in a technical field of study, engineering, or electrical and electronics.
  • Diploma or Advance Diploma with a minimum of 3 years of experience is encouraged to apply.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience with manufacturing and assembly automation cells.
  • Must be self-directed and work with a minimum amount of direct supervision.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, modify, and improve the mechanical aspects of existing automation systems.
  • Familiarity with statistical problem-solving techniques.
  • Possess good interpersonal and supervisory skills.
  • Technical experience in robotics, automation, and PLC programming.
  • Skills: SolidWorks, CREO, Autodesk Inventor, robotic exposure, electronics wiring, and programming.
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience with AB servo motors, AB drive, Pneumatics, AB PLC, Omron PLC, Epson Robot, Island view, panel view software (advantage).
  • Produce accurate documentation in accordance with Good Documentation Procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.
  • Able to operate safely in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule which may include overtime and weekends.
