Scope

As an IT Lecturer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the minds of the next generation of IT professionals. Your responsibilities will span across teaching, curriculum development, research, and community engagement, aiming to deliver an outstanding educational experience. This role is perfect for individuals passionate about both technology and education, eager to contribute to the academic and professional development of our students.

The candidates shall be a member of the staff of the Department of Information Systems (DIS) which is assigned by the KICT and shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties, along with other obligations as normally required of an academic staff member of the IIUM. Candidates should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to their colleagues and students as part of their duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM.

As a lecturer and member of the academic staff, the candidate is required to attend any meetings related to administrative positions they may hold. This attendance is mandated by appointments made under the IIUM or through administrative directives issued by the Rector, Dean, or Head of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department/Institute/Office/Mahallah.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development: Design and update comprehensive IT courses that reflect the latest industry trends and academic standards.
  • Teaching Excellence: Deliver engaging lectures, tutorials, and lab sessions across a variety of IT subjects, incorporating cutting-edge technologies and software.
  • Student Assessment: Create and evaluate examinations, assignments, and projects to gauge student knowledge and skills, providing constructive feedback.
  • Research Contribution: Conduct and publish impactful research in the IT field, and supervise student research projects and theses.
  • Professional Development: Remain current with technological advancements and pedagogical strategies through continued education and active participation in academic communities.
  • Community and Industry Engagement: Collaborate with industry experts to ensure curriculum relevance and foster opportunities for student placements.
  • Mentorship: Offer academic advice and personal mentorship to students, guiding them towards academic and professional success.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must hold a Doctorate (PhD), Master’s and Bachelor’s Degree in Computing from a recognised university.
  • Malaysian applicants are welcome to apply, fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment.

Minimum Competencies

Particularly in a higher education context, typically encompass a blend of academic qualifications, teaching abilities, research skills, and personal attributes that enable effective education delivery, student engagement, and contributions to the academic community. Prior experience in teaching and research in the higher education sector is an added advantage.

Minimum Research and Publication

Expected minimum performance to be considered is as stated in the table below:

  • Completed Research Grant as Principal Investigator (PI): Completed 40k as PI and accumulative 70K including ongoing research as Co-Researcher.
  • Publications as Main Author or Corresponding Author: 3 Indexed and 3 Non-Indexed, with at least 3 papers as Main/Corresponding.
  • Completed Student Supervision as Main Supervisor: 2 master students.
  • Impactful Community Engagement/Service Contribution: At least 1 Contribution.

Language Qualifications

All candidates must have obtained:

  • Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).
  • IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4. Candidates without any of these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
