General Description:
The Country Medical Director will be responsible for medical affairs leadership, governance, oversight, and operational management of the Malaysia medical team as they manage BeiGene assets for hematology and solid tumors through pre-launch, launch, and all phases of lifecycle management.
The incumbent will play a key role in the design and implementation of the respective Country Medical Affairs plan and provide the required scientific support for marketed products and products in development.
This role reports directly to the Head of Medical Affairs APAC and is a core member of the country leadership team, APAC medical leadership team, and various GMA teams.
Essential Functions of the job:
Lead the local medical team
- Manage and supervise Associate Medical Directors, Senior Medical Affairs Managers, and Medical Science Liaisons (“MSLs”).
- In collaboration with the GMA teams, lead the development and implementation of local plans, aligned with global objectives but customized to Malaysia-specific needs and challenges.
- Drive cascading and understanding of global strategic plans and priorities, and overall alignment of customized local medical plans and activities.
- Support execution excellence so medical projects are delivered against high-quality standards, on time and within budget.
Provide Medical Governance
- Support compliance in the country by providing advice as needed and acting as a local point of contact for escalation and/or the resolution of compliance questions.
- Ensure compliance with Country/Regional directives for the release of promotional material, medical representative training materials, and medical information.
- Assess and respond to Code of Conduct complaints from other companies.
- Chair the SEA R&D Council (a cross-functional group representing Clinical Operations, Medical, and Regulatory Affairs).
- Be a standing member of the funding committee.
Active and value-added representation on the Country Leadership Team, APAC Medical Leadership Team
- Serve as a key member of the local country leadership team.
- Serve as a key member of the APEC MLT.
- Serve as a key member of various SEA teams.
Collaborate cross-functionally
- Serve as the scientific leader with local leadership and, as required, managerial support responsibilities for scientific staff.
- Strong internal advocate to support reimbursement submissions and drive BeiGene’s commitment amongst the medical fraternity.
- Serve as a spokesperson for product launches and medical issues in the Country/Region.
- Recommend new Country/Regional studies and medical affairs activities to Global Medical Affairs leadership.
- Actively build appropriate relationships with regional medical and scientific entities relevant to BeiGene’s portfolio.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders for and on behalf of BeiGene.
Focus on the future and solve problems
- Proactively identify and improve on processes that are not customer-centric or not productive.
- Act as a thought leader and recommend and implement processes or platforms that enable the Medical Affairs group to be more efficient and future-focused.
Pharmacovigilance oversight
- Development and maintenance of country/regional procedures required for local compliance and global company needs.
- Expedited reporting of ICSRs to local authority as required.
- Review of local literature.
- Receiving and responding to safety queries arising locally.
- Support local RMP activities.
- Addressing needs of local PMS requirements.
Qualification Required:
- MD or equivalent international qualifications or experience.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, with a focus on Medical Affairs, and a proven track record in oncology.
- A minimum of 5 years of front-line management experience.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- A deep understanding of the Thai medical landscape.
- A record of building and leveraging scientific and professional relationships.
- Experience in negotiating effectively with external and internal stakeholders.
Education Required:
- M.D. physician with experience in Medical Affairs and Clinical Trials related to oncology, or equivalent international qualifications or experience.
