1. Job Information

Post: Assistant Professor

Grade: DS13
Status of Appointment: Permanent (Malaysian only)
Basic salary: Between RM6,210.00 to RM14,370.00 (based on experience)
Area of specialization: Clinical Psychology
Department: Psychiatry
Kulliyyah (Faculty): Kulliyyah of Medicine
Location: Kuantan

2. Scope

The officer shall be a member of the staff of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department to which he is assigned by the IIUM and shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties, along with other obligations as required of an academic staff member of the IIUM.

The officer should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to his colleagues and students as part of his duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM.
The officer shall attend meetings of IIUM Authorities, Boards, and Committees to which he may be appointed as a member by virtue of the IIUM Constitution or any Statutes or Acts, or any administrative actions of the Rector, Dean, or Head of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department.

The officer is also expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community.

The officer is expected to advise and guide students regarding their character, behaviour, and moral conduct. In short, he is not only a teacher (Mu'allim), a scholar ('Alim), but also a moral educator (Murabbi).

3. Key Responsibilities

  1. Preparing and delivering lectures, workshops, and seminars.
  2. Developing curricula and course material that can be used across several platforms.
  3. Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge.
  4. Setting and grading assignments, tests, and examinations.
  5. Conducting research and writing papers, proposals, journal articles, and books.
  6. Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution.
  7. Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution.
  8. Providing support to students and other colleagues.
  9. Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field.
  10. Participating in clinical work as required.

4. Minimum Qualifications

  • A PhD in Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, Psychological Medicine, or related discipline.
  • Have a Masters in Clinical Psychology.
  • Published work would be advantageous.
  • Have experience conducting psychological assessments and interventions for clients with mental disabilities.
  • Registered under the Malaysian Allied Professions Council (for Malaysians) or regulatory bodies that provide recognition for clinical psychologists (for international applicants).

5. Minimum Competencies

  • Ability to inspire students with your passion.
  • Flexibility, resilience, and willingness to work long hours.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience conducting psychological assessments and interventions.

6. Other Requirements

  • Proficiency in English.
  • Proficiency in Malay and Arabic would be a bonus.

7. Language Qualifications

All candidates must have obtained:

  • Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).
  • IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4. Candidates without any of these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
