Job description

Support in group-wide sustainable finance risk management for CIMB’s non-retail financing and capital raising businesses. Execute the Group Sustainable Financing Policy, Sector Guides and due diligence process across CIMB Group’s footprint, in order to manage a broad range of material Environmental and Social (E&S) issues in all financing and capital raising deals that may lead to financial risks such as credit risk, as well as reputational risk. As a team member within Group Sustainability, advocate and, as appropriate, support in embedding sustainability knowledge and practices across all Business Units and Business Enablers regionally.

Job Description

  • Support in the development and implementation of the Group Sustainable Financing Policy and sustainability due diligence process in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and international branches, in consultation and collaboration with Wholesale Banking, Commercial Banking and Group Risk.
  • Support in the development and implementation of Sector Policies to identify and mitigate a broad range of material Environmental and Social issues in all financing and capital raising deals that may lead to financial risks such as credit risk, as well as reputational risk, based on latest science (e.g. climate science), best practices (e.g. Taskforce for Nature Related Financial Disclosures) and sector-specific developments.
  • Execute and support in group-wide implementation, management and monitoring of performance related to:
    • Environmental and social due diligence, based on transactions and themes (e.g. Human Rights)
    • Project and client level environmental and social action plans
    • Exposure to high sustainability risk sectors
  • Participate in client engagements to minimise environmental and social impacts arising from our financing and capital raising activities and identify opportunities to support sustainability transition and/or address E&S controversies.
  • At the forefront of relevant E&S standards, requirements and guidelines, apply the knowledge to proactively identify improvements required and support in building internal capacity on material E&S issues as required.
  • Influence and engage peers from relevant Business Units and Business Enablers to minimise negative impacts in CIMB’s financing and capital raising activities, in line with the Group’s sustainability policies and procedures, and embedding Sustainability as a mindset within the Group.
  • Support at relevant sustainability-related conferences and engagement with external stakeholders as required.
  • Execute improvement actions in addressing all concerns and requirements of key management, Board, regulators and/or auditors with respect to functional area of responsibility.

Job Requirements

  • Academic qualification in engineering, environmental management or sustainability-related discipline from a recognised institution.
  • Certification in environment and social risk assessment, certification in environmental impact assessment, or certification in sustainability/climate risk.
  • Between 2-5 years working experience preferably in Sustainability and/or environmental and social related roles.
  • Experience engaging with relevant stakeholders (e.g. Master Builders of Association Malaysia, International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association, Malaysia Palm Oil Certification Council, WWF).
  • Proficient in Environmental and/or Social risk and impact assessment.
  • In-depth knowledge of key sustainability issues, ESG international standards/principles and best practices and their relevance to the banking sector.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork.
  • Good data analysis and report writing.
  • Effective communication and possess writing skills with clarity.
  • Experience in project management and stakeholder engagement.
