We are currently seeking a Assistant Manager, Linehaul to join DHL eCommerce team in Malaysia.

The Assistant Manager, Linehaul will play a pivotal role in managing and optimizing the efficiency and effectiveness of linehaul and backhaul operations. This role requires a detail-oriented and proactive individual who ensures that performance standards are met, costs are controlled, and operational challenges are swiftly addressed. The Assistant Manager, Linehaul will report to the Fleet, Transport & Linehaul Manager and collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain high service levels and operational excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1) Operational Management

Driver and Vendor Performance

  1. Monitor and evaluate the performance of drivers and vendors, ensuring compliance with company standards and policies.
  2. Conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback, and implement corrective actions or penalties for SLA breaches.
  3. Foster strong relationships with vendors to ensure reliability and consistency.

Truck Utilization and Forecasting

  1. Forecast monthly and quarterly truck requirements based on historical data, market trends, and operational needs.
  2. Develop strategies to maximize truck utilization and reduce idle time.

Daily Operations Oversight

  1. Supervise linehaul and backhaul operations to ensure smooth daily activities.
  2. Ensure trucks depart and travel on time, minimizing delays and disruptions.
  3. Quickly address and resolve day-to-day operational issues to avoid service interruptions.

Service Level Maintenance

  1. Maintain the highest service levels by adhering to company SLAs and penalizing breaches.
  2. Implement service improvement initiatives to enhance customer satisfaction.

2) Cost Management and Record Keeping

Cost Tracking and Budget Management

  1. Track and analyze transportation costs, identifying areas for cost optimization.
  2. Prepare detailed reports on expenditures and align them with departmental budgets.

Record Maintenance

  1. Ensure accurate and up-to-date record-keeping of all linehaul-related documents, including driver logs, maintenance reports, and vendor agreements.
  2. Establish a robust system for tracking operational metrics and compliance records.

3) Performance Improvement and Strategy

Process Optimization

  1. Identify and recommend improvements to operational processes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  2. Leverage technology and tools to streamline operations and ensure real-time monitoring of linehaul activities.

Training and Development

  1. Train and mentor drivers and staff on company policies, safety protocols, and operational procedures.
  2. Ensure all team members are equipped with the skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.

4) Compliance & Safety

Regulatory Adherence

  1. Ensure compliance with all transportation laws and regulations, including safety and environmental standards.
  2. Conduct regular audits to verify adherence to policies and procedures.

Safety Oversight

  1. Promote a culture of safety among drivers and vendors, minimizing accidents and incidents.
  2. Investigate and resolve any safety-related concerns or violations.

5) Reporting and Coordination

Performance Reporting

  1. Prepare and present regular performance reports to the Linehaul Manager, highlighting key metrics, achievements, and areas of concern.
  2. Collaborate with other departments, such as Customer Service and Warehousing, to align operational goals.

Crisis Management

  1. Act as the point of contact during emergencies or operational disruptions, ensuring quick resolution and communication to stakeholders.

Desired Skills / Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  2. Proven experience in transportation or logistics management, preferably in a linehaul or backhaul capacity.
  3. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  4. Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  5. Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  6. Familiarity with local and international transportation regulations and standards.
  7. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
