The job holder is responsible for:
- Delivering commercial legal advice which supports the company’s vision of being the first choice provider of financial services for its dealers and customers.
- Protecting the business from adverse regulatory activity and reputational risk within the framework of all applicable laws and regulations.
- Delivering legal solutions to a range of operational challenges, opportunities and projects to mitigate the company’s exposure to legal risk.
- Identifying and briefing General Counsel on potential/actual legal exposures and proposing appropriate proactive and remedial measures.
- Supporting the regional and global legal risk management programs within the local entity.
Scope of responsibilities:
- Providing legal support and advice in setting up the OneHUB Shared Service AAP entity and during daily operations afterwards.
- Providing authoritative legal advice to all departments to support its finance and insurance business and operations of OneHUB Shared Service AAP.
- Driving a legal risk management program to ensure the organisation meets both its business objectives and complies with its regulatory obligations.
- Communicating and liaising with external parties such as external counsels and local authorities.
- Providing legal advice on a wide range of topics such as antitrust laws, corporate laws, including local regulatory requirements.
- Handling/supporting/coordinating Corporate Secretary duties.
- Proactively involved and strategically advising on projects undertaken by OneHUB Shared Service AAP.
- Drafting and negotiating service level agreements on behalf of OneHUB Shared Service AAP with Financial Service markets and service providers.
- Ensuring OneHUB Shared Service AAP avoids regulatory activity by reviewing and providing advice on its Operations activities.
- Drafting, negotiating and securing legal documentation.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Called to the Bar, preferably 4-5 years practicing experience; in-house experience will be an advantage.
- LLB (Bachelor of Laws degree) or equivalent from a recognized law school.
- LLM (Masters of Law degree) is a plus.
- Work / Industry Experience:
- Minimum 4-5 years of working experience.
- Practicing in a law firm or in-house as a lawyer for at least 4 years in Corporate/Commercial and Contract law with general legal consulting experience.
- Specific Knowledge and Capabilities:
- Analytical, efficient and results-oriented within tight time frames.
- Pro-active and self-motivated.
- Capable of translating complex legal topics into brief and comprehensible legal analysis, with concrete and precise recommendations.
- Determination to be an integral part of the business and contributing to the company’s strategy by delivering legal solutions rather than putting up barriers to business.
- Demonstrates operational excellence and contributes to a high-performance culture through effective leadership and coaching.
- Embodying Mercedes’ corporate values and displaying a strong passion for the brand.
- Desire to work in a corporate legal environment.
- Effective manager within the company.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (focus on delivering sustainable “plain English” legal advice).
- Ability to provide commercially balanced advice that is aligned with the company’s strategy.
- Persuasive negotiating skills.
- Well-defined organisational skills.
