Freelance Accountant

The Job

We are seeking a skilled Freelance Accountant to manage day-to-day accounting, oversee financial systems, ensure compliance with regulations, and generate accurate financial reports. The ideal candidate will have expertise in accounting system setup, financial analysis, tax compliance, and working with external auditors. This role is perfect for a detail-oriented professional who can work independently and handle multiple accounting functions. Key Responsibilities:

1. Day-to-Day Accounting:

  • Account Reconciliation: Perform daily reconciliation of accounts, including bank accounts, accounts receivable (AR), and accounts payable (AP), ensuring accurate and timely updates.
  • Financial Record Maintenance: Manage and maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ensuring integrity and consistency in financial data.
  • Month-End Close: Oversee journal entries, ledger updates, and manage the monthly financial close process to ensure all transactions are recorded and reconciled accurately.

2. Accounting System Setup:

  • System Evaluation & Implementation: Evaluate, design, and implement a comprehensive accounting system tailored to the company's needs, ensuring functionality and scalability.
  • Sub-System Development:
  • Inventory Management: Track stock levels, cost of goods sold (COGS), and inventory valuation, ensuring accuracy in reporting.
  • AR & AP Automation: Automate invoicing, collections, and payments processes, reducing manual effort and enhancing efficiency.
  • E-Invoice System: Set up an electronic invoicing system that is fully compliant with local regulations and tax standards.
  • Depreciation System: Develop a fixed assets module to manage depreciation schedules, track asset values, and ensure accurate reporting.
  • System Integration: Ensure seamless integration between financial and operational systems, minimizing errors and inefficiencies.
  • Documentation & Training: Document workflows, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and create training manuals for users to ensure smooth adoption and usage of the system.

3. Compliance and Standards:

  • Local Accounting & Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with local accounting standards, tax regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Tax Filing: Prepare and file tax returns, financial statements, and other regulatory submissions on time to maintain compliance.
  • Regulatory Submissions: Stay updated on local laws and regulations, ensuring timely and accurate submission of necessary financial and tax documents.

4. Audit and External Liaison:

  • External Auditor Coordination: Coordinate with external auditors to ensure a smooth and timely audit process.
  • Audit Documentation: Address auditor queries, providing the necessary documentation and explanations as required.
  • Tax & Regulatory Liaison: Liaise with tax authorities and other regulatory bodies, ensuring all necessary interactions are handled efficiently and professionally.

5. Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Financial Reports: Generate accurate and timely financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Financial Analysis: Provide actionable insights and recommendations based on financial data to optimize financial performance, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.

6. Ad-Hoc Tasks:

  • Ad-Hoc Support: Support the finance team with ad-hoc tasks, such as budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Staff Training: Provide training or mentorship to junior accounting staff (if applicable), ensuring they understand processes and best practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA/ACCA preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, ERP systems). Advanced knowledge of Google Slides and financial reporting tools.
  • Experience & Expertise: Proven experience as an accountant with strong understanding of accounting principles, tax laws, and compliance regulations. Expertise in accounting systems implementation and financial reporting.
  • Organizational & Communication Skills: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Independent Work & Time Management: Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Additional Experience: Experience with audit preparation, financial reporting, and liaising with regulatory bodies. Familiarity with e-invoicing systems and inventory management solutions is a plus.

Work Environment:

Remote position, requiring approximately 20 hours per week. Attend the office as needed.
