Under the administrative supervision of the State Hospital Step Down Program Manager and the clinical supervision of the Director of Substance Use Disorder Services or designee, the Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP)/Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) is a member of the Crisis and Substance Use Disorder Team at the San Gabriel Crisis Center and State Hospital Step-Down Homes. This includes services provided to substance use, residential withdrawal management, and crisis programs. The QMHP/LCDC will complete formal substance use intakes with screenings and assessments, including but not limited to biopsychosocial assessments, mental status exam, communicable disease assessment, financial eligibility, admission paperwork, consent forms, referrals to appropriate level of care, inputting DSM 5 diagnostic impression, and lastly recommendation for treatment. The counselor will also be required to collaboratively complete and modify person-centered treatment plans and discharge plans after treatment has been completed. The QMHP/LCDC will provide orientation to the substance abuse program, facilitate individual and or group counseling. Group counseling will consist of interpersonal process groups as well as psychoeducation groups with evidenced-based practices. Counselors are also encouraged to provide case management for the client to ensure the development of external support for long-term recovery. The QMHP/LCDC is a member of Substance Use and State Hospital Step Down teams serving Williamson & Guadalupe Co. and will work with an interdisciplinary team of professionals, including an Addiction Psychiatrist, Registered Nurses, a Family Nurse Practitioner, and a Peer Recovery Coach to support persons seeking recovery. Other services include consultation with crisis staff.
Exemplary communication skills are necessary in order to communicate with individuals served, accurately document service provision, and work with community/agency partners. This position is one discipline of a multidisciplinary team and will be working closely with individuals.
Location: San Gabriel Crisis Center; Georgetown, TX (Local travel to Seguin up to 25% of the time)
Minimum Qualifications: Licenses Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) and Bachelor’s degree in social science with equivalent coursework toward a social science major (at least 24 hours), minimum of two years of counseling and case management experience, must have demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, must have a valid Texas driver’s license and maintain approved driver’s status throughout employment. LCDC Intern is acceptable if able to be fully licensed as LCDC within three months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual in Spanish, knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques and practices of working with individuals experiencing substance use detoxification.
