POSITION SUMMARY

Under supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Lead Operator, the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I performs technical and manual work in the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant, lift stations, and related facilities; serves as lead worker when others are assigned to assist at the wastewater treatment plant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Observe electrical control boards, motors, pumps, meters, and related equipment.
2. Calculate dosage and add chemicals to collection system in accordance with prescribed standards.
3. Monitor safety practices.
4. Operate, oil, and adjust pumps and machinery.
5. Perform rebuilding of pumps, and repair mechanical and minor electrical equipment.
6. Draw samples of wastewater; conduct laboratory tests and analysis.
7. Prepare reports of test results for submission to the state.
8. Conduct visual inspections of equipment.
9. Assist in scheduling cleaning and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
10. Keep daily records of plant activities.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

1. Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
2. Assist other departments as needed.
3. Perform related duties as assigned by the Wastewater Treatment Plant Lead Operator.
