APPLICATION CLOSING DATE: April 23rd, 2025

The Human Technopole Foundation is looking for a Technician of High-Throughput Technologies for the UI1 High Throughput Sequencing unit of the National Facility for Genomics.

The National Facility for Genomics provides state-of-the-art and innovative services in genomics. Its core mission is to implement robust experimental and analytical workflows to probe all major domains of genomic exploration, including but not limited to the analysis of DNA, RNA, chromatin and other markers of epigenetic and regulatory activity. These techniques can be applied to diverse areas of biology, with resolution spanning to whole organisms, to tissues or individual cells. Overall, NF Genomics aims to empower research in all domains of genomics for the Italian scientific community at large.

In the context above outlined, the Technician of High-Throughput Technologies, reporting directly to the Head of NF Genomics, will become part of the team of the High Throughput Sequencing unit of the Genomics National Facility. At the heart of the IU1 operations are cutting-edge automated systems, carefully designed to continually elevate productive capacity and enhance the cost-effectiveness of services.

About the Unit:

This Unit uses advanced technology to streamline processes and accelerate the speed of sample processing and sequencing, integrating high-tech protocols and automation, setting new standards in genomics research. IU1 transcends the conventional role of a service provider; it stands as a beacon at the technological frontier, constantly striving for innovation, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in genomics, transcriptomics, and epigenomics analyses.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Handle sample and library preparation for Genomics, Transcriptomics, Epigenomics and Metagenomics analysis, including through automation-intensive workstations.

  • Manage data collection and evaluation support, including the use of a LIMS for data and sample tracking.

  • Use of NGS sequencers (i.e. Illumina, MGI, Oxford Nanopore platforms)

  • Handle next-generation sequencing data, including storage of data and metadata and preparation of sequencing-related files.

  • Support in the development and implementation of SOPs and/or experimental pipelines.

  • Participate in key aspects of general Facility management and organization (e.g., managing inventories and stocks of samples, reagents, equipment, and materials).

  • Report regularly with colleagues and line manager on the flow and timeline of sequencing projects.

  • Participate in the implementation of sequencing technologies and platforms as sequencing technology progresses.

  • In collaboration with senior tech offer consulting services to external users and support them executing projects.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant subject, e.g., biology, genetics, biochemistry, or in a related field of the life sciences.

  • At least 1 year hands-on experience with multiple genomic technologies, including documented experience in preparation and sequencing of libraries for the main bulk sequencing technologies (eg. Illumina) for genomics, transcriptomics and epigenomics analyses.

  • Knowledge of NGS sequencing platforms (i.e. Illumina, MGI).

  • Previous experience in working with automated systems for samples preparation (i.e. nucleic acids extraction, library preparation).

  • Fluency in English – HT is an international research institute.

Preferred requirements:

  • Knowledge in using of a LIMS for data and sample tracking.

  • Good working knowledge of bioinformatics tools to handle, store and prepare files from genomics data.
