Summary:
As a Senior Services mechanical Engineer, you will act as the mechanical engineering leader for the retrofits of SRU (slip ring units used for large ship propulsion) and of MCR (motorized cable reels used for electrified port cranes), as well as other Cavotec product related upgrades or adaptations. You will ensure that the required design modifications for the repair, refurbishment and upgrade are meeting the required functional design criteria of the product. You will also ensure that the service project is executed in accordance with the contract technical specification and with the appropriate standards and norms to delivers a safe and quality product. You will support the Sales teams during the tendering phase for the technical specifications and preliminary designs.
The Role:
Provide design and re-engineering capability to repair, refurbish or upgrade Cavotec assets (installed base).
Revise drawings and bill of material (BOM) using Cavotec standard tools and documentation management system:
Define and implement reliable technical solution suitable for the use
Create detailed drawings or/and implement changes to existing designs
SolidWorks 3D modelling software is mandatory
Select proper components according to Manufacturer’s instruction and good practice
Create and store drawings and 3D models electronically in the appropriate Document Vault
Create and implement part number and BOM in the Company ERP
Identification of technical solution to replace existing component in obsolescence status
Support the resolution of technical issues according to Services requirements
Assist sub-suppliers or Centres of excellence in the production process
Support the preparation of the technical instruction/documentation for Field Service Technicians and Customer in support of new repair, refurbishment or upgrade solutions
Revise operation and maintenance manuals with latest learnings from maintenance & operation.
Support global service product engineers in the preparation of service instructions for FST.
Support claim management team and Global services product engineers for technical analysis related to root cause analysis
Engineering Lead for the retrofit or upgrades/adaptation solutions at site including the supervision of installation. The installation works may be at port or on a ship (dry dock or commercial sailing).
Work with internal teams (Services Product Engineers Services Managers and Project Managers), suppliers and contractors to ensure work is performed according to requirements and time schedule.
Provide mechanical technical inputs to sales team & review mechanical system technical proposals based on the requirements specified in customer specification.
Support Project manager in planning, purchase, organizing the FAT at various factories, issuing claims (cost impact and time impact for new work scope / change request) & delivery completion (including SAT).
Act as the Cavotec technical lead for the retrofit/upgrade solutions, working with the customer to deliver retrofit/upgrades solutions and actively seeking feedback with customer to drive improvements.
Support technical evaluation of supplier proposals.
Train other field service technicians to develop a network of expertise in Cavotec for retrofitting Cavotec products.
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in design and/or supervision of retrofits works
Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent background required
Engineering knowledge on ports & maritime requirements and regulations
Proven supervision experience of subcontractors
Knowledge on delivering integrated solutions
Strong interpersonal skills
Proficient with CAD Design. SolidWorks 3D modelling software is mandatory
Knowledge of other most known software design (2D and 3D) is a plus.
Fluent in English and Italian
