Job Description
We are actively looking for a Senior HVDC Consultant to strengthen our team in supporting a client in the Energy sector. According to the various projects, you will be called to develop different activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Feasibility Stage: Contribute to the selection of the optimal parameters for the HVDC equipment, chosen through networks and performance studies.
- Specification of HVDC Substations: Define the station layout, electro-mechanical arrangement, main equipment selection (e.g. transformers), potential filter banks (shunt compensators, smoothing reactor, etc.), ancillary equipment, and control & protection systems.
- Construction / Commissioning Phase: Follow factory and site acceptance tests, ensuring the quality of the supplied products. Interact directly with clients to guarantee excellence in delivery, in full compliance with the technical and economic targets of the project.
- Project Coordination: Coordinate the activities of junior engineers during project execution.
Required Skills
You should have good knowledge of the fundamentals of the electrical power system and familiarity with common software tools for network modelling (e.g., PSCAD, ATP, EMTP-RV, PSSE, DigSilent or equivalent).
Location
You will be part of a team working on the main Power Equipment/Systems of both HVDC Stations. After an initial integration and familiarization period in Milan and the office in Arnhem, the business activity will also require availability for periods abroad, ranging from a few days to a few weeks. You will work either from Arnhem in the Netherlands or Milan in Italy.
What You Bring
You have good communication skills in English (both written and verbally), and knowledge of Italian is appreciated. Other foreign languages, particularly German or French, will be considered a plus. You should possess:
- A combination of persistence, empathy, and excellent human relations skills for extensive customer contact.
- The ability to operate independently as well as in a team.
- An Electrical Engineering degree, preferably with a major in Energy Engineering at BSc or MSc level.
- 5+ years of experience.
Qualifications
Additional qualifications include:
- Optimization of internal and external resources.
- Project coordination and scheduling.
- Flexibility to lead consultancy in various countries.
- Skill in managing complex and challenging projects.
Technical Skills: Main HVDC components (transformers, breakers, disconnectors, filters, bushings, switchgears, smoothing reactors, and surge arresters). Proficiency in software tools for network modelling (e.g. PSSE, PSCAD, ATP, DigSilent or equivalent, ETAP) and applicable standards for Converter Stations.
