Position Summary: The Villanova University M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing (FCN) is pleased to invite applications for the M. Louise Fitzpatrick Endowed Professor in Community/Home Health Nursing. This distinguished academic leader will advance research, education and innovation in the rapidly evolving and critical discipline of community/home health nursing and health care, positioning the College as a national leader in the field. They will share in Villanova Nursing’s demonstrated commitment to excellence in scholarship, teaching and service and provide strategic, visionary and dynamic leadership to faculty, staff and students.

Duties and Responsibilities

Research and Scholarship

  • Secure external funding to support research, projects and collaborations in community/home health nursing (e.g., NIH, Health Resources and Services Administration [HRSA], National League for Nursing or other national sources).
  • Conduct innovative research in community/home health nursing, and mentor faculty and students to do the same, contributing to advancements and breakthroughs in the field through outstanding nursing education.
  • Publish high-impact research articles in reputable scholarly journals and present findings at national/international conferences.
  • Lead and mentor research teams conducting community/home health-based research.

Teaching and Mentoring

  • Teach courses about community engagement models and creative home health models across student levels.
  • Mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate students, providing guidance in their community/home health research projects and academic pursuits.
  • Foster a stimulating and inclusive learning and healthy work environment that encourages critical thinking, creativity and innovation.

Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Engagement

  • Collaborate with faculty, researchers, communities, industry partners, health care systems and professionals to promote interdisciplinary research and projects.
  • Engage with relevant departments, institutions, communities and industry partners to advance the integration of community and home health nursing across various domains.
  • Collaborate with College of Nursing faculty and staff to reimagine community and home health nursing, positioning us as a national leader in the field.

Community Outreach and Knowledge Dissemination

  • Engage in outreach activities to promote awareness and understanding of community and home health nursing among stakeholders.
  • Participate in public lectures, workshops and seminars to share knowledge and expertise with a broader audience. Collaborate and build community partnerships.

Leadership and Administration

  • Establish the College of Nursing presence as a key leader in community and home health nursing.
  • Provide academic leadership in the field of community and home health nursing within the College of Nursing and the broader academic community.
  • Serve on committees, task forces and academic boards to contribute to decision-making and strategic planning in the College, University and broader academic and health care community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Research doctoral preparation in Nursing or related field, with specific experience in community/home health nursing to advance education of health care professionals and the health of communities.
  • A distinguished record of scholarly research and publication in community/home health nursing and health care.
  • Experience in securing research grants and funding.
  • Demonstrated excellence in working with students.
  • Current position at the rank of Full Professor. Eligibility for tenure.
  • Minimum of three years’ academic administration experience or other significant academic/educational nursing leadership experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, collegiality and ability to collaborate. Teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Research Doctoral preparation in Nursing strongly desired.
  • Leadership experience within an academic or research setting is highly desirable.
  • The highest standards of personal and professional integrity.
