Licensing in & Business Development Senior Manager
The role:
- The Corporate Business & Portfolio development is a key driver of the execution of the growth strategy of the company’s portfolio.
- The Director will report solid line to the VP, Corporate Head of Business and Portfolio Development.
- The Director will possess strong business acumen with an established network of connections to be leveraged.
- This highly visible position will take the lead on the research, identification, evaluation, deal structuring, and negotiation of in-licensing, product acquisitions, M&A opportunities, executing on contracts and transactions, all in support of the company's portfolio growth strategy and objectives.
- Closes profitable deals on a global level.
- Delivers results: drives higher revenues by proactively identifying and pursuing new project opportunities for the company's portfolio.
- Develops the business case and overall assessment of external products, including the financial model working cross-functionally.
- Acts as an interface between internal team members and partner companies, driving the deal process from asset search to deal execution.
- Generates leads, conducts market research, analyzes competitor data, and identifies trends and opportunities in existing as well as new markets.
- Supports the establishment of the company as a business partner of choice, by leveraging existing network of connections and actively building, growing, and maintaining partner relationships while ensuring outreach to new potential customers at partnering events.
- Works closely with the Head of Corporate Business & Portfolio Development, providing significant input to the overall departmental activities both in the internal governance processes and external interfaces with the partners.
- Willing to travel domestically or internationally as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum 10+ years of pharma industry experience or BD&L roles, with a track record on licensing across therapeutic areas of interest to the company.
- A pharmaceutical industry expert, with strong commercial sense and an advanced degree, demonstrated leadership in running commercial analysis, negotiations, and contracting for license opportunities.
- A business qualification (e.g., MBA) is preferred, alternatively a PhD in Life Sciences.
- Solid record of achievements in BD&L positions.
- Competence in reviewing and editing contracts and providing direction to Legal in term sheets and contracts.
- Demonstrated project management and leadership skills to lead/manage cross-functional teams in preparing partnering opportunities and enabling decision making.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and networking skills.
- Skilled at building and cultivating relationships as a team player – across internal as well as external stakeholders.
- Fluent business English; working knowledge of Italian or Spanish would be an advantage.
- An organizational skill set to handle multi-tasking workloads.
