RINA is currently recruiting for a Junior Italy Electrical Plan Approval Engineer to join its office in Viareggio, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.

Mission

This role focuses on supporting the elaboration of detailed plan and design reviews, resolving issues related to conflicting design requirements, ensuring client requirements and applicable standards are met.

Projects could include the approval of new building, conversion, and existing vessels and yachts.

Key Accountabilities

  • Review and approve drawings of electrical and automation systems, encompassing autonomous ship technology and cyber security, on ships, offshore units, and marine equipment, in adherence to Class Rules and Statutory Regulations. This includes projects for new buildings, vessels in service, and ship conversions.
  • Provide support for the detailed marine engineering plan review, ensuring compliance with relevant RINA rules, international conventions, and contractual obligations. Additionally, assist in resolving issues related to conflicting design requirements and material standards.
  • Take ownership and responsibility for the financial progress of assigned tasks, oversee project elements on a day-to-day basis, visit sites for measurements, and prepare project deliverables such as technical reports, project performance documentations, and engineering drawings.
  • Apply project management concepts, provide feedback to project managers, escalate issues when necessary, manage simple projects, assess minor structural problems, and act as a liaison between engineering and construction teams.
Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
Master’s Degree


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 1 year of experience in the electrical engineering field, particularly with maritime electrical systems or in a technical consultancy environment.
  • Solid understanding of electrical regulations and standards (e.g., IEC, ABS, IMO) for ships and maritime operations, encompassing electrical system design, installation, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of electrical plan approval processes within the maritime industry, ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies and international standards.
  • Experience in evaluating electrical plans and drawings for marine vessels, reviewing them for safety, compliance, and technical feasibility.
  • Familiarity with the use of electrical simulation tools and design software to assess electrical system performance.
  • Proficiency in creating detailed reports and documentation, outlining compliance status, technical findings, and recommendations for approval.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify potential electrical system issues or areas of non-compliance during technical reviews.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal teams and clients to facilitate the approval process and address technical concerns.
  • A solid understanding of electrical systems on board ships, such as generators, switchboards, propulsion systems, and battery management.
