Detailed Work Schedule 20 hours per week entailing:

  1. 25%: Collaborate with Assistant Director of Experiential Learning and student leaders to create, plan, and implement events; develop marketing strategies, materials, and website content for SSLC.
  2. 20%: Serve as an instructor for a one-credit integrating seminar, which includes preparation meetings with student teaching assistants, assignment review, and grading.
  3. 20%: Collaborate with student leaders to implement recruitment events and initiatives targeting prospective students for Service-Learning Communities (SLCs).
  4. 15%: Plan and execute regular meetings and communication with student co-chairs, facilitators, leaders, and members of SSLC.
  5. 10%: Work with Community Partner(s) to assess and develop the role of student volunteers in service, research, or project-based service learning.
  6. 10%: Perform independent work or research on topics and projects as prescribed.

Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary: The Graduate Assistant for the Sophomore Service-Learning Community (SSLC) will work closely with the Assistant Director of Experiential Learning, student leaders, and campus partners to engage students in meaningful service-learning experiences. The GA will support the mission of the SSLC by organizing and implementing community events, recruitment initiatives, and student leadership development programs. This role also includes teaching a one-credit integrating seminar, working directly with community partners to enhance student engagement in service-learning, and fostering a supportive learning environment for students. The GA will play a key role in event planning, mentorship, and program assessment while supporting the growth of Villanova’s Service-Learning Communities.

Requirements

  • Education Requirement:
    • Must be accepted and matriculated into a full-time graduate program at Villanova University.
  • Service-Learning Knowledge & Experience:
    • Understanding of the pedagogy and practice of Service Learning in Higher Education.
    • One year of volunteer experience or post-baccalaureate work in a nonprofit environment (strongly preferred).
    • Basic understanding of or direct experience with:
      • Service-learning principles
      • Community service
      • Volunteer coordination
      • Experiential education
  • Flexibility:
    • Must be available for meetings and events beyond traditional work hours, including evenings and weekends throughout the academic year.
  • Technology Skills:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva/Adobe, Social Media outlets, and other relevant software applications.

Physical Demands Summary

  • Must be able to drive a university vehicle (valid driver’s license required).
  • Ability to carry equipment and supplies to and from event locations.

Wage Rate: $20,425 (AY25-26)
