Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) is a private research institution devoted to excellence in research in numerous disciplines and designated to the role of keeping the Autonomous Province of Trento in the mainstream of European and international research. Each research area is assigned to a specific research Centre, of which there are twelve totals. In particular, the FBK Centre for Sensors and Devices (FBK-SD) (https://www.fbk.eu/en/sensors-devices/) is an applied research centre that operates in the following scientific and technological areas: quantum technologies, detectors, microsystems and integrated systems. The FBK-SD has extremely advanced technical knowhow in innovative devices design and fabrication technologies as well as in the system integration. The strategic mission of the FBK-SD is scientific excellence combined with the ability to exploit research results. The innovation model is open to collaboration in national and international expertise networks.

Workplace Description

The candidate will be working in the Program Management Group (PMG) unit of FBK-SD. The PMG is planned to be a high value support to Centre Sensors & Devices and related research lines activities and results. Its role is: to support and implement the Centre’s strategy; to support the unit’s activities in project writing and management; to implement units’ collaboration by common projects and activities; to help in dissemination of results.

Background information and description of research projects

This position is offered within the IPCEI ME/CT project.

In the IPCEI ME/CT project, FBK intends to significantly expand and improve its manufacturing and integration facilities to achieve high-level and reliable heterogeneous production capabilities to maximise research and competitiveness in the market. In IPCEI ME/CT, FBK is mainly working on the integration of new materials (Silicon Carbide & Germanium-on-Silicon) and hetero-integration to extend the capabilities of already established silicon platforms for different classes of devices.

Job Description

FBK-SD is looking to hire a Project Manager and Proposal Writer to support the strategic development and implementation of activities within the IPCEI ME/CT project. The role requires expertise in project management, report and document writing, team organisation, time management and planning.

The position will contribute to strengthening FBK’s role in the European research and industrial ecosystem by integrating new materials and hetero-integration technologies to advance silicon platforms.

The successful candidate will contribute to the following tasks:

  • Coordinate the implementation of approved projects within the IPCEI ME/CT framework, ensuring efficient and timely delivery in alignment with project objectives. Support the implementation team needs and opportunities of the moment, as well as personal interest and expertise. A mix of these is estimated on average;
  • Ensuring the effective coordination and supervision of project activities, guaranteeing compliance with objectives, timelines, and financial requirements;
  • Support the team in the planning, preparation and coordination of the submission process, in particular of EU funding proposals;
  • Identify strategic needs and potential project concepts which can have a high success rate from throughout the range of scientific activities carried out across the SD Centre;
  • Supporting the PMG group and the SD direction to simplify the smooth and efficiency running of the Centre;
  • Collaborate in the communication and dissemination activity, including enhancing the web page and in increasing the presence of the SD centre;
  • Contribute to research activities in line with personal expertise and the strategic direction of the SD Centre.

Job requirements

The ideal candidate must have the following requirements:

  • Master degree in scientific discipline or relevant to this position;
  • At least 3 years post-master experience in relevant fields;
  • Strong project management skills and capacity to design and implement European-level projects;
  • Excellent knowledge of the EU Programs;
  • Strong and proven experience in proposal and grant writing;
  • Very good understanding of the research sector, especially from a European perspective;
  • Language assessment according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): level of knowledge required. Knowledge of English will be verified during the interview on a technical or scientific topic and must be equal to or exceed level B2.   • Experience in working for research projects;
  • Pronounced abilities in prioritizing tasks and effective time management;
  • Strong intercultural communication skills;
  • Strong sense of curiosity and willingness to learn and develop;
  • Teamwork approach, good communication and relational skills;
  • Strong orientation to results, determination, flexibility and aptitude for problem-solving.

The following requirements will provide additional score in the evaluation process:

  • Knowledge of both written and spoken Italian;
  • Knowledge of any other language;

Employment

Type of contract: fixed-term contract

Working hours: full-time (38 h per week)

Start date: Preferably May 2025

Duration: 36 months

Contract type: CCPL Research Foundation Personnel (https://trasparenza.fbk.eu/ita/Personale/Contrattazione-collettiva/Rinnovo-CCPL-delle-Fondazioni) for a third level technologist, the current gross annual remuneration is Euro 44.087,26.
