Job Description

Our company is hiring an Environmental Health and Safety Manager (EHS Manager) for our facility in Rome, GA. This role will be responsible for EHS oversight in our local manufacturing and warehousing operations.

The EHS Manager reports to the local Plant Manager, with a dotted line to the regional EHS Director. This person will work with internal company functions and appropriate external service providers, such as insurance carriers, brokers, and consultants, to ensure that EHS best practices and processes are adhered to.

This position is a hands-on role that requires work at the implementation level in addition to administrative and management levels.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement programs that ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety requirements arising from federal, state, and local regulations.
  2. Lead local Behavior Based Safety implementation efforts.
  3. Serve as an EHS leader in the company and mentor others to support EHS initiatives, including daily interactions with site departments to promote safe work activities.
  4. Maintain and promote EHS policies and procedures.
  5. Develop and implement a plan that ensures EHS training is performed to meet or exceed applicable state and federal requirements.
  6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS considerations into all aspects of operations.
  7. Communicate EHS policies and procedures to all employees.
  8. Be the Subject Matter Expert for the site regarding all environmental, safety, and health requirements and Best Practices.
  9. Engage in the goals and responsibilities of the Plant Leadership Team.
  10. Incorporate EHS goals into the annual site plans.
  11. Keep the Plant Leadership Team informed of the ongoing status of the EHS program.
  12. Facilitate accident, incident, and near miss investigations.
  13. Be the site representative to the insurance company in the event of a worker's comp claim.
  14. Maintain all required safety, accident, and environmental records and documentation.
  15. Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate potential hazards.
  16. Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.
  17. Implement waste reduction initiatives to minimize environmental impact.
  18. Conduct environmental and safety compliance inspections and compile/report data to state and federal agencies.
  19. Ensure and maintain site emergency response and contingency plans.
  20. Participate in and serve as the point person for all OSHA and EPA inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures.
  21. Keep the site leadership updated and involved in all interactions with these agencies.
  22. Verify that safety equipment such as PPE, forklifts, overhead cranes, and machine guarding are available and in proper condition for use.
  23. Ensure that routine inspections, including but not limited to inspections of fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, machine guards, warehousing racks, and grounds, are completed as required.
  24. Participate in EHS monthly meetings with site and corporate personnel as requested.
  25. Develop and communicate an EHS Scorecard to drive performance improvements.
  26. Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.
  27. Serve as a local representative on the Safety Center of Excellence (COE).
  28. Serve as a local representative on the Green Team.

Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Four-year degree in EHS Management, EHS Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or similar.
  2. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in leading Environmental, Health and Safety within a manufacturing facility.
  3. Direct experience developing, implementing, and managing a Behavior Based Safety Program.
  4. Experience with an Environmental, Health & Safety Management system such as VelocityEHS.
  5. Experience leading safety committees.
  6. Experience developing and delivering EHS training.
  7. Experience with Hazardous Waste procedures, local and state regulations (Georgia experience but not required).
  8. Experience with compliance reporting – Stormwater, emissions, RCRA.
  9. Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or similar industry-recognized certification, but not required.
