Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.
We want you as a talented EEE (Electrical, Electronic and Electromechanical) Components Engineer to help us in our mission by ensuring the design, development, and performance of electronic components and systems in the harsh space environment.
You will be successful in this role if you are able to help us:
Defining the test procedures needed to perform the qualification of EEE parts for our space missions.
Implementing the procedures to upgrade EEE parts to the required levels of quality to tackle safety hazards and reliability goals.
Maintaining control over the parts employed in the flight hardware.
In your capacity as EEE Components Engineer, your day-to-day duties will include:
Defining the procedures needed for EEE qualification of parts employed in avionics systems:
Define the procedures based on applicable standards in terms of tests to be achieved per EEE part type and based on the quality level to be achieved for the system it is employed in.
Design test setups to achieve these qualification procedures and define the test equipment needed to achieve these qualifications.
Executing the upgrading of EEE parts to the required quality level:
Implement the procedures in-house for EEE part lot screening and qualification based on the part types and the related reporting to meet parts control board objectives.
Develop the automation required to run and monitor the required qualification tests at part level.
Perform the reporting activity for the in-house qualification of EEE parts.
Deal with external suppliers which can perform the quality upgrading and the reporting activities.
Component Approval:
Approve the EEE parts to be used in the flight hardware for all Nyx capsules and future upgrades.
Maintain the necessary level of quality assurance for procurement of all flight lots.
Maintain traceability of EEE parts being employed in the hardware.
Quality Assurance:
Establish and implement quality assurance processes to verify the characteristics of components and systems.
Take care of the maintenance and upgrades of the equipment in order to guarantee the required level of quality in the process.
Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, systems engineers, and project managers.
Communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Documentation:
Create and maintain detailed documentation related to EEE part qualification and component selection/approval for flight hardware.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Non-conformances Management:
Provide expert guidance on the resolution of non-conformances
Recommend technical product improvements to reduce risks to quality and delivery, and potential defect opportunities
Continuous Learning:
Stay abreast of industry advancements and emerging technologies in electronics testing.
Continuously improve and update knowledge and skills related to components engineering.
In the role of EEE Components Engineer ideally, you will have the following:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field. In lack of a degree, > 5 years of experience in the field.
Proven experience in EEE components quality assessment and qualification for electronic systems used in aerospace/space/military applications, in particular related to upgrading commercial/automotive parts.
Proficiency in developing automation for control of industrial machines (such as thermal chambers, radiographic equipment, etc.), in performing electrical measurements of EEE parts, in working with chemical products.
Proven experience with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium, or similar) and software tools for automation of machine control (LabView, Python, C, or similar).
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Knowledge of relevant standards such as NASA, MIL-STD and ECSS standards.
Previous experience in the space or aerospace industry.
