Titolo del progetto: Structural and fire behavior of masonry bridges and buildings
Idea progettuale: The research project is focused on the evaluation of the mechanical and thermal response of masonry buildings and bridges subjected to different exceptional load conditions, including earthquakes and fires. The project aims to evaluate the structural behavior through a multi-hazard analysis of the combined effects of seismic action and fire. Furthermore, the effects can be assessed in the post-seismic phase with the objective of proposing a protocol for reducing vulnerability and adapting to the required standards by current EU regulations. This protocol will be applied to the built heritage, including strategic masonry structures and infrastructure (bridges, etc.) as well as buildings of high historical and architectural value. The project will utilize static and dynamic analyses on Finite Element models, calibrated through dynamic identification techniques of the mechanical and thermal behavior of the structures. The structural analyses will be also combined with Machine Learning techniques to generalize the results.
Attività didattica e di didattica integrativa e di servizio agli studenti: Teaching will concern fundamental and advanced courses in the Academic Field CEAR-07/A “Structural Analysis and Design”, within bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, PhD degree and post-graduate courses, with particular attention to the effects of fire on the load-bearing capacity of structures. In addition, the didactic commitment will include practice lessons, seminars, participation in examination boards, tutoring activities and support for thesis preparation. Teaching, supplementary teaching and student service will amount to a commitment of 350 hours per year. The official didactic commitment consists of a maximum of 60 hours of class per academic year.
Lingua straniera richiesta: The assessment of the knowledge of English will be based on the scientific publications in English presented. The examination board may also assess the knowledge of English through an interview. Since several activities will be carried out in collaboration with the Laboratory of the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Alicante, a basic knowledge of Spanish is required for the necessary technical communications.
Requisiti specifici di ammissione: Ph.D. on topics related to the Scientific Disciplinary Sector CEAR-07/A – Structural Engineering
