Now we are looking for passionate Support / DevOps Engineers to work with multiple systems focusing on video acquisition, encoding processing and multi-distribution platform broadcasting and streaming for Italy and Germany services. You’ll be responsible for supporting the video deliveries across our multiplatform stack (DTH, OTT, IPTV, VOD, DTT), ensuring the best possible video experience for our customers across all of Sky’s propositions.
While continuously monitoring the services, the candidate will mitigate performance issues of our systems by analyzing KPIs and taking actions according to their variations. In coordination with other ops teams, the candidate will handle new business initiatives and deliver the best possible video experience to our customers. This includes determining the cause of an issue, working on fixes, and applying them.
As part of the role, to ensure the best and continuous experience for our customers, it is required to cover shift on-duty weekly support.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Telecommunication/Computer Science Engineering or a related technical field, or relevant technical experience;
- Experience with computer systems (Windows, Linux/Unix);
- Knowledge of IP-based networking technologies;
- Knowledge of principal scripting languages (like bash, C#, python, ansible);
- Experience with troubleshooting and identification of the issue’s root cause;
- Demonstrated skill and passion for operational excellence;
- Experience in development/technical support;
- Ability to work any shift as assigned, as dictated by the needs of ops coverage;
- Follow up incidents through to resolution and take action to prevent recurrence;
- Accountable for the whole platform, improving stability and releasing any new capabilities for continuous service improvement;
- Sharing knowledge using agreed collaboration tools;
- Create and update support documentation;
- Good knowledge of English (spoken and written).
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of video compression and transport stream analysis;
- Familiarity with main video and audio format codecs;
- Knowledge of HLS, DASH and Smooth streaming specifications;
- Understanding of cloud technologies (like Docker, Kubernetes);
- Experience in the use of CI/CD tools and RESTful APIs;
- Understanding of TCP/IP and networking protocols used in video transmission/streaming over IP networks; HTTP/RTP/RTMP;
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and flexibility to deal with different technical skill levels in a highly dynamic work environment;
- Ability to creatively approach problems not covered by existing procedures;
- Experience with monitoring and log aggregation tools (e.g. ELK stack, Grafana, Dataminer, Zabbix, checkmk).
