R&D Local Unit Lead
Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB’s success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team. The work model for the role is: onsite. You will be mainly accountable for:
Design, analyze and document new/existing products
Create electrical model of power semiconductor
Simulate power electronic circuit breaker for a variety of applications
Selecting components and engaging suppliers for technical requirements and feasibility of identified solutions
Support the design of cooling system including estimation of losses and efficiency
Design and simulation of gate driver design
Maintain documentation of all designs
Collaborate with engineers to perform cross-functional tasks such as control, testing, layout, etc.
Perform hands-on testing of new/existing products
Troubleshoot new/existing products
Build and test simulation models and hardware demonstrators
Build test assemblies, run experiments, and record test data
Analyze test data and optimize the solutions
Prepare internal and external technical reports
Qualifications for the role
You are immersed in the design and analysis of power conversion topologies and enjoy working in the power electronics market.
You have an MS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering in the field of Power Electronics.
You possess proficiency in design and analysis of power conversion topologies and are familiar with power semiconductors (modules and discrete) technologies.
You are adept in using thermal and electrical simulation tools such as Ansys Maxwell/Icepak, SIMetrix, PLECS, and Matlab/Simulink.
You have hands-on experience in designing, building, and testing prototype converters, demonstrating expertise in component placement for insulation voltage, cooling, signal integrity, and EMC considerations.
You are familiar with standard PCB design software packages like Altium Designer.
You are proficient in using digital oscilloscopes and other laboratory measurement equipment such as spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, and impedance analyzers.
You have familiarity with MATLAB, Python (NumPy), or similar numerical calculation tools.
You have experience with SPICE-based simulation tools and function simulation tools such as LTspice, PLECS, and Simulink.
You have experience in low voltage power conversion industries and DC applications.
You have demonstrated skills in effective communication, presentation of results, and networking.
You are fluent in English, both spoken and written.
You show initiative and maintain a positive attitude.
