The project involves designing an oral release system of encapsulated enzymes that reach the intestine and degrade specific toxic metabolites before they are absorbed into the systemic circulation. The encapsulation allows the enzymes to withstand the acidic environment of the stomach and to activate only in the intestine, transforming toxic compounds into harmless molecules.
Functioning: The gastro-resistant capsules contain enzymes selected for specific diseases, such as those that degrade certain toxic amino acids or sugars. In the intestinal environment, the capsule dissolves, allowing the entrapped enzymes to act in a targeted and safe manner.
