AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. The Data Center Operations (DCO) Cluster Manager is responsible for an AZ or multiple AZs or portions of the cluster or a smaller cluster. Your role is both tactical and strategic management. You will have deep knowledge in multiple technology domain areas (e.g., compute, hardware, network, software, communications, security, etc.).
Key job responsibilities
- You will learn to influence other clusters by participating in strategic meetings.
- You collaborate with other teams and service owners for the best outcomes.
- You manage ICs, SMEs and/or Managers with limited to no guidance.
- You effectively hire, performance manage, coach, and promote by evangelizing our LPs.
- You have input into succession planning and you partner with recruiting on future strategies and initiatives.
- You are responsible for owning team KPIs, and reviewing department/function key goals and metrics.
- You predict issues, take proactive action to resolve anticipated issues, and make sure KPIs are met.
- You are comfortable analyzing data and creating data models for review after your independent analysis.
- You are able to propose projects that have significant team, technology, and/or customer impact.
- You summarize problems/escalations for multiple sites and find a path forward in complex situations.
- You partner with other teams on technical issues that span multiple organizations.
- You manage and deliver large-size projects through coordination which can range from sponsoring/managing pilots to safety or performance efficiency initiatives with regional or global impact.
- You oversee/support new regions.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of experience in Operations field.
- 4+ years of management experience in a similar domain or job family.
- Experience in strategic planning and execution of large-scale projects across multiple sites or an entire cluster in a region.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing operational excellence mechanisms, workflows, and SLAs.
- Experience in managing and developing teams, including managers and technical SMEs.
- Strong analytical skills to make data-driven decisions and ensure measurable, auditable customer outcomes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience presenting to senior leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive change through effective communication.
- Experience in workforce planning and succession management.
- Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.
- Experience in performance management, coaching, and promoting talent within teams.
- Ability to manage complex technical problems, make trade-offs between short-term and long-term needs, and mitigate long-term risks.
- Proven ability to develop and drive extensible and scalable technical solutions.
- Experience in contributing to or developing strategic initiatives with a 1-3 year outlook.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Strong understanding of data center technologies and operations, including compute, storage, and networking.
- Data center industry experience.
- Experience in disaster recovery.
