JOB TITLE Senior Datacenter System Engineer
JOB OBJECTIVE Datacenter System Engineer with a professional experience (min. 5 years) in virtualized and hyperconverged infrastructures and data centers.
Datacenter Senior System Engineer role requires a sound technical knowledge and experience in virtualized environment, from the Design to the Configuration and maintenance of such infrastructures. Candidate will support the Bid and Project in different aspects. As part of the Bid / Tender stage, the candidate will analyze contractual and system requirements, derive subsystem requirements and build the datacenter infrastructure based on the outcome of such analysis. As part of the Project stage, the candidate will interface with the Application Layer teams and Network Layer teams to collect all the inputs necessary to develop the Design. During integration and development phase, the Candidate will support the IVVQ team and coordinate with Suppliers to build the designed infrastructure.
The knowledge of System Engineering discipline and processes will be an important element in the candidate evaluation.
The candidate must have developed through his professional experiences the capability of managing relationships with other departments, Customers and Suppliers.
Fluent English is mandatory.
The knowledge of French is appreciated.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Datacenter Senior System Engineer:
- In the context of Engineering accountability, is responsible for all technical activities: identifying and analyzing the requirements (Contractual and System Requirements phase), defining the architecture, allocating the requirements to the system components, defining the interfaces between components, developing solutions (System Design and Development phases), integrating, verifying, validating and qualifying the system (System Integration and Acceptance phases).
- Is responsible for the conformity with requirements, quality, performance, Customer satisfaction, budget and schedule relevant to his Engineering work package.
- Proposes the technical solution and the general application, computing, storage and network architecture to support the virtualized environment.
- Ensures requirements management and their allocation to subsystems/components.
- Plans and oversees configuration management activities and solution integrity with the Configuration Manager.
- Support for deployment/installation and site acceptance activities.
- Ensures coordination and communication among the various players in technical activities and a smooth transition of responsibility to "Installation and Commissioning" organization.
- Is the main technical interface for the Customer Counterpart for his subsystems.
- Coordinates with his technical Customer Counterpart according to Contractual requirement.
- Participates to Project Meetings (internal and external: with the Customer, Hitachi Rail subcontractors and other entities) when scheduled and/or requested.
- Compiles reports concerning his role and responsibilities according to internal reporting procedure.
- Drafts official letters and correspondence to be sent to the Customer.
- Coordinates and controls the different Vendors / Manufacturers, Suppliers and Subcontractors.
- Correctly applies Quality procedures and HSE procedures and instruction.
- Properly deals with other Contractors to manage external interfaces with the Interface Manager.
- Allocates and co-ordinates human and physical resources in his team (if any).
- Continually reviews the technical Scope of Work and keeps updated the scope baseline informing constantly the PM, the Contract Manager and the System Engineering Manager.
- Proposes variation requests to SEM for submitting to the Customer.
- Assists the PM/SEM, the Contract Manager and the Sales department in the technical negotiation of the change proposals.
- Supports the Contract Manager in preparing the Claim Files (towards Vendors, Subcontracts and Customer).
- Supports the technical bid contributing to the offer preparation for Centralized Control System (CCS) and Datacenter Application.
- Contributes to the preparation of the list of deliverables.
- Defines acceptance procedure principles and Integration, Verification, Validation, Qualification, Acceptance Plan with the help of Integration Manager and the approval of the SEM.
- Coordinates with Purchasing Department for the technical content of RFQ, for Offers evaluation and Suppliers selection.
- Supports the Purchasing Department in the definition of subcontracts and standard clauses to be inserted in the Sub Contract Agreement and in the Purchase Orders.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Specific technical competencies are necessary to cover this critical role and will be evaluated during candidate review. Prerequisites for this role are: - Strong knowledge of networking TCP/IP stack, routing, VLANs, Spanning Tree protocols, redundancy protocols (HSRP, VRRP and similar), network management protocols (SNMP) - Cisco CCNA or similar certification is positively evaluated for such role.
- Good knowledge of Cybersecurity and Information security: Application Firewalling (UTM), Access Control Rules, Packet Inspection and Intruder Detection Systems.
- Good knowledge of Operating Systems, both Windows and Linux based.
- Good knowledge of Windows based auxiliary services (Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, GPO, PKI Infrastructures, MSSQL).
Main skills requested by the candidate to successfully cover the role are: - Proven experience in design and implementation of virtualized architectures (HW, Hypervisor and SW architecture). Specifically, Hitachi Rail solution mainly relies on VMWare vSphere as Hypervisor, and the candidate will have to demonstrate a strong technical knowledge of the VMWare vSphere and associated products.
- VCP-DCV 2021 certification is minimum the target certification Hitachi Rail is requesting for this role.
- Additional certifications which are positively considered in the evaluation of the candidate are:
- VMWare vSAN Specialist;
- VMware Certified Implementation;
Good knowledge of the virtualized networking and security platforms - VMWare NSX or similar.Good knowledge of Cloud paradigms (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) with specific references to Azure Services and Amazon Web Services (AWS), as well as Hybrid Cloud.When evaluating the skills in implementing the Datacenter infrastructure, the Candidate will be asked to prove competences in the full stack from the bare metal of computing and storage, to the management services of the hypervisor (VMware vCenter Server as an example).Capacity to troubleshoot virtualized infrastructure and connected services is requested for this role.Thank you for your interest in Hitachi Rail.
