Data Center Engineering Operations Chief Engineer, DCEO

Amazon Data Services Italy S.R.L. is seeking an energetic, detail-oriented individual to join our Data Center Engineering Operations Team in the Greater Milan Area. This committed group works to maintain the critical physical infrastructure that supports Amazon Web Services (AWS). The Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center operates at peak efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers.
2. Assist in the design and build-out of new facilities.
3. Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues within the data center region.
4. Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
5. Troubleshoot and report facility and data server-level events within internal SLA.
6. Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians and vendor support teams.
7. Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians.
8. Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff.
9. Utilize internal Change Management Systems to manage building workflows.
10. Provide metric availability reporting on a weekly basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
2. Strong working knowledge and experience of Data Center infrastructure, including UPS and backup generator systems.
3. Full EU driving license and advanced level of English.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience in operations and on-call support for Data Center facilities.
2. Project Management experience.

This is a 100% in-person onsite position due to the hands-on nature of managing mission-critical infrastructure. The role follows standard working hours (8 AM – 5 PM Milan time from Mo - Fri) with no shift work.
