Who are we?

Sonder is an inclusive, not-for-profit organisation that has been providing better quality health and support services to the South Australian community since 1993. We support thousands of people each year to access services across seven key domains – Mental Health, Aboriginal Health, Alcohol and/or other Drugs, Employment, Community Health, Disability, and Homelessness.

Term: 3 years plus eligible for 3 + 3 year extension (total of 9 years)

Time Commitment: Monthly Board meetings + additional committee involvement

Location: Various locations around Metro Adelaide

About The Role

As a Board Director, You Will

  • Provide strategic leadership and governance for Sonder.
  • Ensure cultural safety and inclusivity in decision-making.
  • Advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives.
  • Support the organisation’s strategic plan, policies, and compliance.
  • Attend Board meetings, committee meetings, strategy sessions, and community engagement events.
  • This position is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Identified position and is exempt under the Equal Opportunity Act (1984). The position will only be open to those who identify as of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
Essential Experience Requirements:

  • Strong connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Knowledge of governance, leadership, or community advocacy.
  • Understanding of the needs and aspirations of Aboriginal People.
  • Ability to contribute to strategic decision-making.
Desirable

  • Experience on a Board or committee.
  • Knowledge of corporate governance (training can be provided).
  • Understanding of financial, legal, or risk management.
