Incumbent inspects, tests, diagnoses and repairs fuel and electrical systems and batteries of commercial, 1/4, l/2 and 5-ton vehicles and materials handling equipment. Diagnoses carburetor, injector pump and fuel pump deficiencies by performing vacuum, compression and acceleration tests, using appropriate gages. Tests electrical systems, assemblies and components such as regulators, alternators, batteries, generators, distributors, starters, and ignition systems. Uses hand tools and testing devices such as tachometer, growled, injection pump, sun test bench, low voltage circuit tester, ohmmeters, battery load testers, hydrometers and fuel pump test stand.
He/she adjusts and repairs fuel and electrical units. Disassembles fuel induction units; examines parts to detect evidence of wear and corrosion. Cleans parts with solvent and measures them to assure correct tolerances. Cleans commutators; solders wiring connections; and replaces defective armatures, brushes, bearings, and brush. Locates shorted or open electrical circuits using voltmeter, ammeter or OHM Meter and insulates hare wiring. Replaces defective wires, lamps, switches, circuit breakers, and fuses. Reassembles fuel injectors and electrical units, making final inspection and adjustments. Inspects to determine required parts, using parts manuals.
NOTE: Tour of duty is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 08.00 to 17.00, including a 1-hour uncompensated lunch break.
