Job Description

Job Title: Staff Grade Medical Scientist

Location: Cork

Type: Permanent

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Medical Scientist to join our team in Cork with one of Ireland's Leading Private Hospital Groups. The successful candidate will be a recent graduate with a degree in Medical Science or a related field. The ideal candidate will be a multi-disciplinary professional with a passion for advancing healthcare through research and innovation. Or if you want to specialise in one area, we would welcome that also.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Perform routine laboratory scientific work to the highest possible standard in accordance with the Laboratory Department's policies, procedures, and guidelines.
2. In co-operation with the Consultant Pathologist, Laboratory Manager, Senior Medical Scientist, and the Chief Medical Scientist, participate in the introduction of new ideas and methods according to Hospital policy.
3. Participate as required in the registration, custody and stock level of the Laboratory reagents and other consumables.
4. Receive and record details concerning non-conformances, complaints and defects in supplies and equipment, investigate the circumstances with the appropriate team members, take the necessary corrective action and report the findings in line with the Pathology Department's Non-Conformance System.
5. Adhere to Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures on document control and retention of records. Participate in evaluating equipment, reagents and consumables.
6. Assist the Clinical Director of Pathology, Consultant Pathologist, Laboratory Manager, Senior and Chief Medical Scientists, and other relevant staff in ensuring compliance with ISO15189, International & National guidelines and standards for the provision of service and actively participate in internal quality control and external quality assessment.
7. Adhere to all laboratory's Standard Operating Procedures, Policies and Guidelines. Participate in the Hospital Performance Review and Development system in order that performance can be assessed and identify development needs.

Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree in Medical Science or a related field
2. CORU Registered or be Eligible based off University Degree
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
4. Strong attention to detail and analytical skills - Ability to work independently and as part of a team
5. Experience with multi-disciplinary laboratory work
6. Knowledge of laboratory safety and quality control procedures
7. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
