Technician

The Hotel Technician is responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of the hotel's facilities and equipment through preventative maintenance, repairs, and prompt response to guest requests. This role involves a wide range of technical skills and a commitment to ensuring guest comfort and safety.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily Operations & Maintenance:

1. Manage day-to-day hotel operations, ensuring smooth functioning of all systems.
2. Report daily work progress and pending jobs to the Maintenance Executive.
3. Execute the Preventive Maintenance schedule as assigned.
4. Monitor hotel functions and provide technical support (e.g., PA system).
5. Address all types of M&E (Mechanical & Electrical) issues within the hotel.
6. Perform repairs and maintenance on systems and equipment based on skill level.
7. Replace faulty lamps as per the daily checklist.
8. Carry out repairs in public areas based on technical skills and experience.
9. Perform "Everything in Working Order" preventative maintenance in guestrooms and public areas, documenting all work.
10. Ensure work areas are clean and tidy after completing tasks.

Guest Service & Requests:

1. Respond promptly to guest requests for repairs in guestrooms, public areas, restaurants, and back-of-house areas.
2. Ensure guestrooms and public areas are returned to Housekeeping in pristine condition after maintenance work.

Inspections & Preventative Maintenance:

1. Conduct regular inspections of equipment as per the daily checklist.
2. Perform preventative maintenance inspections according to the computerized system.
3. Clean storm water drains and building gutters to prevent blockages.
4. Participate in the Fire Protection Preventative Maintenance Program.

Record Keeping & Reporting:

1. Review the daily log book, address unsolved items from previous shifts, and discuss with Maintenance Executive.
2. Update and file maintenance work order forms/job cards.
3. Maintain proper records for all hotel equipment.
4. Prepare written reports of accidents and damages to the Maintenance Executive immediately.

Safety & Compliance:

1. Ensure Fire and Engineering safety features operate efficiently.
2. Ensure compliance with legislated workplace health and safety requirements.
3. Comply with all Geo Resort & Hotel SOPs.
4. Adhere to grooming and uniform standards.
5. Become familiar with hotel emergency procedures and perform assigned duties.

Other Duties:

1. Clean and tidy all engineering-related areas (electrical, IT, plumbing riser shafts, storerooms, workshops).
2. Maintain all workshop tools and equipment.
3. Ensure "Everything in Working Order" trolleys are adequately stocked.
4. Attend hotel and engineering and maintenance meetings as required.
5. Participate in the hotel's energy conservation program.
6. Assist other departments with maintenance and repairs when required.
7. Perform equipment repairs as per manufacturers' recommendations.
8. Perform repairs and maintenance to the physical building structure, including minor installations.
9. Complete assigned tasks within reasonable timeframes and to hotel standards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

1. Diploma/ Certificate in Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering/ Hospitality and Tourism Management, or a related field.
2. Minimum 5 years of equivalent working experience in the hotel industry.
3. Proficient in English, Malay, and Mandarin (written and spoken).
4. Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
5. Strong knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building maintenance.
6. Ability to troubleshoot and repair various types of equipment.
7. Results-oriented with effective time management and operational skills.
8. Ability to work independently, systematically, and be self-motivated.
9. Good team player.
10. Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
11. Preferred: Skills in carpentry, plumbing, and/or audio-visual systems.
