The Job

The Shift Manager reports directly to the General Manager and receives instruction and guidance from the respective ISBL and OSBL Managers. The Shift Manager is the overall person in charge providing leadership in handling emergency and security matters that may occur until the General Manager or ISBL and OSBL Managers are onsite to take over command of the situation. They are the SIC (Site Incident Commander) leading shift emergency response crew in an emergency. Shift Manager oversees the shift team of Supervisors and Technicians and plays a key role in ensuring that all the Business Teams Managers instructions are adhered to. They are accountable for maintaining steady plant operations and optimizing production in a safe and reliable manner to meet Ambercycle’s production plan.

What You'll Do

After Office Hours:

1. Represent General Manager, ISBL and OSBL Managers, Technical, Safety Health and Environment, Security, Distribution and Plant Administration.
2. Act as the single point of contact within Ambercycle’s site for all matters in operations, repair, safety, security, product quality, shipping and interfacing with external parties.
3. Liaise with the respective Production Team, Maintenance, Technical, Distribution Managers to set new directions to meet prevailing conditions/requirements.
4. Liaise with logistics on tank trucks loading/unloading matters.
5. Direct total line function for all employees working within their shift group, including Laboratory, Maintenance employees who are on overtime and working on shift duty, security guards and response crews.
6. Ensure shift team implements all instructions and work activities as outlined by various functions and that they are executed in a safe and timely manner.
7. Provide overall leadership in handling emergencies and security threats that may occur until the General Manager is onsite.

At All Times:

1. Respond to all contingency situations as Site Incident Commander and contain and secure the situation with the support of emergency response crew and the Operations Manager.
2. Approve all Hot work, Electrical, Excavation, Confined Space and Interlock Bypass work permits.
3. Provide training to shift emergency response crew.
4. Ensure alignment of all Business Teams with Ambercycle's overall objectives.
5. Track all activities in Ambercycle complex to enable development of occasional changes and coordination among all the Business Teams.
6. Ensure all products meet specifications and liaise with Laboratory staff to resolve discrepancies.
7. Promote teamwork to create a harmonious working environment.
8. Enforce all company policies, safety regulations, and permit to work.
9. Resolve any industrial and human relations matters arising within shift.
10. Act as mentor and resource provider to Shift Supervisors and Operators.
11. Ensure plant interfaces are recognized and conflicts are resolved.

Responsibilities

Production

1. Ensure all instructions from the respective Business Team Managers are carried out.
2. Ensure all energy conservation measures and programs are carried out as scheduled.
3. Assist Shift Supervisors during unit upset/emergency.
4. Carry out checks of total facilities to ensure safe and environmentally sound operations.
5. Ensure incidents are investigated, reported, documented and communicated on a timely basis.
6. Ensure all scheduled Operator Basic Care (OBC) activities are carried out within their shift.

Safety, Health, Environment, and Product Qualities

1. Conduct safety training and carry out shift safety drills as scheduled.
2. Communicate and enforce Ambercycle’s policies and safety regulations.
3. Investigate and follow up on all incidents that occurred within their respective shift.
4. Ensure all work is carried out safely.
5. Ensure all products meet specifications and resolve discrepancies.

Administration

1. Monitor and submit Shift Technicians overtime requests to the General Manager for Approval.
2. Ensure planned vacations are taken in accordance to plan.
3. Approve expense claims for Shift Technicians and Supervisors.
4. Control non-volume related expenses to below target.
5. Approve all annual and other leave of absence for shift personnel.
6. Collate and monitor absenteeism to minimize overtime.

Accountabilities

• Look after the welfare of all shift employees and lead by example.
• Develop, train, and build a positive attitude and high professional workforce in the shift team.
• Ensure all planned training programs are carried out as scheduled.
• Plan and implement cross-functional, shift, and area training for shift employees.
• Recommend promotions for subordinates in consultation with other Shift Managers and Business Team Managers.
• Resolve all personnel conflicts within shift through coaching and counselling.
• Ensure consistent work rules and standards are followed.
• Conduct annual performance appraisals of all Shift Supervisors and Technicians.
• Develop safety training plans and safety drill schedules with the EHS group.
• Lead the Shift Safety Improvement Meeting periodically.

Minimum Qualifications

• 15+ years work experience in Chemical/Petrochemical Complex.
• A technical high school qualification relevant to Chemical/Petrochemical Refinery.

The position is full-time and based in Gresik, East Java, Indonesia.
