Job description

BASIC FUNCTION
Provide sound and effective business solutions for Kohler’s businesses located in the ASPAC region, with a focus on Indonesia, through proactive and timely legal advice on all aspects of the businesses (compliance, HR/labor, corporate governance, government relations, disputes/litigation, customers, vendors etc.). Develop and implement organizational compliance, ethical and legal decision making of the operations and businesses in the ASPAC region. Work directly with business leaders, internal and external counsel, and corporate functions to partner and collaborate on key decisions and strategic priorities. Provide education and share expertise on legal topics related to corporate governance, HR/labor, regulatory, government relations, compliance, and commercial matters in addition to advising on other relevant legal topics.

General Legal Function Responsibilities

  1. Provide legal counsel and guidance on all matters for Kohler’s businesses located in ASPAC region, with a focus on Indonesia, with effective problem solving and solutions oriented approach.
  2. Potential to serve as President Director of Kohler’s Indonesia entity.
  3. Responsible for all employee contract agreements, local agreements and contracts with distributors, developers and vendors, and any business legal letter in Indonesia.
  4. Guide leaders in the organization as a legal business partner through effective partnership, education and influence.
  5. Lead, manage and resolve litigation and disputes in Indonesia.
  6. Display a high level of collaboration and relationship building through strong business acumen/savvy, conflict navigation, and communication proficiency.
  7. Display appropriate legal expertise, thought and precision, with ability to draft, review and negotiate legal documents, conduct legal research, and identify and mitigate risk.
  8. Research, identify, and evaluate risk factors and legal issues that could impact operations or business objectives.
  9. Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive strategic advice on all legal issues.
  10. Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel, public authority, etc.), building trust and strong relationships.
  11. Legal assistance for employees or company leaders regarding the resolution of legal problems related to the company.
  12. Effectively problem solve and manage workload through application and use of technology, sound decision making and judgment, and effective workload management.
  13. Influence key business decisions and strategies through proactive identification of business risks and opportunities.
  14. Help businesses prioritize key solutions to implement various financial and strategic plans.
  15. Drive continuous organizational improvement by seeking ways to impact the end consumer, prioritize, and innovate with enforcing compliance and business ethics.

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS

Supervisory Relationships:
Reports directly to Legal Director – ASPAC
Dotted line reporting to Indonesia business leaders, with potential expansion of dotted line reporting to other ASPAC region business leaders.

Organization Relationships:
Frequent interaction with global legal partners, corporate functions and leaders of various levels and businesses.

External Business Relationships:
Regular contact by phone, in person and through correspondence with legal counsel for vendors, customers, and others in the ASPAC region, with a focus on Indonesia.
Frequent contact with attorneys throughout the ASPAC region.
Moderate contact with customers by phone, in person and through correspondence.
Occasional contact, primarily through correspondence, but at times by phone or in person with local, state and federal government officials in the ASPAC region, including Indonesia.
Occasional hearing and court appearances in the ASPAC region, including Indonesia.

Skills/Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized university; a Master’s degree (LL.M) is preferred.
- Six to ten years applicable experience as a lawyer either with a private firm or corporate legal department. Experience in court proceedings is required.
- Fluency in English required.
- Experience in advising manufacturing businesses in Indonesia preferred.
