Job description

Role Purpose

To manage the legal affairs of Coats Indonesia and other members of its group operating in Indonesia (together “the Company”), by providing first rate legal advice and services to the Company and supporting other members of the Group Legal Function where required.

Principal Accountabilities and Key Activities

Key functions include:

  • Managing the legal administration of the Company
  • Preparing and advising on contracts
  • Administering and advising on litigation and claims
  • Ensuring legislative compliance
  • Updating management on the latest relevant regulations and laws
  • Monitoring and controlling the validity of Company or management licences and permits
  • Processing and obtaining all business licences in a timely manner
  • Designated project work
  • Supporting the Legal Director and other members of the Group Legal Function where required.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • To support the Company and other members of the Group Legal Function with work in the following areas: corporate, commercial contracts, litigation, intellectual property, competition law compliance, regulatory compliance, policy development and training and data protection.
  • Assisting with Company secretarial work.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and advising on commercial contracts, including assisting the Procurement Team in drafting & vetting of various agreements / contracts / lease rental agreement / job work conversion agreements etc.
  • Undertaking legal research.
  • To assist in the management of the group intellectual property portfolio e.g. trade mark assignments and licences.
  • Facilitating compliance statements and facilitating the mid-year and end of year reports submitted across the group.
  • Provide all assistance to the Heads of Procurement Team and Export Administration Team in respect of various queries / clarification sought for by the Authorities of Indonesian Customs relating to both imports and exports.
  • Provide all legal assistance to the Finance Team in the recovery of outstanding debts.
  • Provide advice on litigation and, where appropriate, liaise with outside counsel to manage cases.
  • Identify and engage appropriate outside counsel where appropriate.
  • Assist the Group Legal, HR Team and other functions in implementing local and Group policies e.g. Anti-bribery & Anti-corruption, Competition Law, Ethics Code, Gift & Entertainment Policy, Supplier Code and Disclosure Policy etc., as well as ensuring strict adherence thereto and playing an active role in supporting Company policies that help meet the Company’s regulatory obligations.
  • To provide support on large scale corporate projects and to provide a solid and reliable service to facilitate smooth running of the projects.
  • Assisting other members of the Group Legal Function as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Hold minimum Bachelor’s Degree (S1) in Law
  • Minimum 5 years experiences in similar position
  • Excellent written and verbal English language skills
  • Business insight - clearly understands the sources of growth, profit drivers and the dynamics of the business
  • Strong background in commercial law
  • Familiar with business license and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent drafting, negotiating and influencing skills
  • Able to deal with high volumes of work from different stakeholders quickly, effectively and to a high standard
  • Ability to set and manage expectations and prioritise work accordingly
  • Able to work autonomously, and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability
  • Naturally good at collaborating and resilient
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and enthusiasm displaying a positive “winning” attitude
  • First rate interpersonal skills
  • A desire to learn and a passion to develop themselves and members of their team
