Founded in 2019, PT Sahabat Laut Lestari (SLL) is an Indonesian company focused on the integration and use of technology and market-driven incentives to support industry and NGOs’ sustainable fisheries commitments. As an implementation and technology partner of an Indonesian-based NGO, Masyarakat dan Perikanan Indonesia (SLL), SLL offers three primary services: 1) Traceability Information Technology, 2) Fisheries Certification implementation, and Fisheries Improvement consultation. With the goal of supporting the achievement of triple-bottom line fisheries – ecological, social, and economic – in Indonesia, SLL is a leading innovator in the development of traceability information technology within Indonesian fisheries.
JOB FUNCTION
Oversees all aspects of marine management, policy, science, and implementation for the Fisheries Improvement Program (FIP) in Indonesia. In close coordination with the Director, s/he must develop FIP for SLL clients. Serves as the person in charge for FIP issues with clients, other conservation organizations (local, national, and international), public and private funders.
POSITION SUMMARY AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop key partnerships with clients to identify and resolve issues related to FIP.
- Negotiate complex and innovative solutions with clients to develop FIP, incorporating a strong emphasis on the sustainable fisheries sector.
- Disseminate best practices, provide training, and analyze to best implement company measures of success.
- Define sustainable fishery priorities and build strategic, scientific, and technical capacity in the field and amongst stakeholders/clients.
- Develop innovative scientific methods, analyses, tools, and frameworks to address the needs of sustainable fisheries.
- Ensure that science-based tools, models, and knowledge are leveraged and adopted by strategic stakeholders/clients.
- Develop and implement cutting-edge sustainable fisheries strategies that meet regional approaches and major international export market requirements.
- Monitor and evaluate client’s implementation for sustainable FIP.
- Train, monitor, and verify clients' data personnel in developing innovative data systems that support fisheries management.
- Support and innovate in advocacy approaches to national fishery managers towards the adoption of new and innovative approaches to fisheries management.
- Identify and analyze gaps in capacity development and provide appropriate solutions for capacity development within all stakeholders/clients.
- Ensure that all implemented activities are related to the company goal.
- Other tasks assigned by the Director, which may be related to SLL internal management or planning activities.
- Manage individual operations requests, such as TR, TER, BR, PR, ER; and also requests in GreatDay, such as leave, overtime, TOIL.

- Ensure efficiency and accuracy in all aspects of tasks above.
- Build strong teams and keep these teams motivated to implement their responsibilities.

- Ensure the program is a success through adoption and acceptance by current stakeholders and expansion to new clients.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
- Internally with all SLL personnel.
- External Stakeholders: Clients, Government (national, provincial, and district), academia, project partners, private sectors (processors, suppliers, distributors), fisher community, fishermen, other NGOs, influencer/endorser donors, etc.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in fisheries, marine resources management, or tropical coastal management with around 5 years’ experience in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimal knowledge of certifications in fisheries; MSC certification is highly qualified.
- Experience in partnership development (clients, partners, community, government, etc.) and with high-level conservation/sustainable fisheries networks.
- Experience working with methods and standards of sustainable fisheries information systems and initiatives.
- Ability to communicate clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
- Politically savvy and experienced in partnership development (clients, partners, community, government).
- Ability to manage time and diverse activities under deadlines while delivering quality results.
- Demonstrated success as an inspirational officer who has successfully motivated other staff to achieve and sustain excellence.
- Demonstrated leadership and visionary qualities to work effectively with cross-cutting teams.
- Networking skills with high-level sustainable seafood contacts internationally and nationally.
