Job description

The Shadow Teacher will provide individualized support to students with special needs, assisting them in their academic and social development within the classroom setting. The role involves working closely with the student, their teachers, and parents to ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Student Support: Assist the student in understanding and completing assignments, ensuring they remain engaged and focused during lessons.
  2. Classroom Assistance: Work alongside the classroom teacher to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and provide necessary accommodations.
  3. Behavioral Support: Help manage and support appropriate behavior, offering strategies and interventions as needed.
  4. Communication: Maintain regular communication with teachers, parents, and other support staff to discuss the student’s progress and address any concerns.
  5. Record Keeping: Document the student’s progress and any incidents or observations that may be relevant for their development.
  6. Adaptive Strategies: Implement and adapt learning strategies and tools to meet the student’s unique needs.
  7. Collaboration: Participate in meetings with educational professionals to review and adjust the student’s learning plan.

Qualifications:

  1. Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
  2. Experience: Prior experience working with children with special needs or in a similar role is highly desirable.
  3. Skills:
    • Strong understanding of various learning disabilities and effective support strategies.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
    • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment.
  4. Certification: Relevant certifications or training in special education or behavior management are a plus.
  5. Additional Requirements:
    • Ability to adapt to changing classroom dynamics and individual student needs.
    • Basic proficiency in using educational technology and tools.

Working Conditions:

  1. Environment: Classroom setting with potential for additional meetings or consultations outside regular school hours.
  2. Hours: Full-time positions available, depending on the needs of the student and school.
