The Job
This role will oversee and execute the design and development of civil engineering and construction activities for Ambercycle’s commercial plant, including processing facilities, utilities, offsites, roads, sewage systems, pipelines, and buildings. This role involves preparing and reviewing studies, drawings, and evaluations in compliance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. The Senior Civil Engineer will also prepare project plans, inspect designs, and ensure successful implementation during construction.
Responsibilities
- Develop and ensure high-quality deliverables and in-house standards including specifications, reports, calculations, templates, and drawings.
- Partner with construction to implement plans, review development agreements, and ensure compliance with occupational safety and health standards during the construction period.
- Maintain, interpret, and oversee site drawings, topographical drawings, construction drawings, and engineering plans for the processing facilities, offsites and utilities, streets, storm drains, parks, buildings, and more.
- Serve as in-house subject matter expert on civil considerations for project design and construction permits and provide technical support to other teams within the company.
- Collaborate with external consultants, contractors, and government officials to obtain necessary permits and approvals while addressing technical questions and resolving project challenges.
- Work with internal teams to define and solicit scopes of work from third-party engineers to support project costing, contracting, and scheduling.
- Review and coordinate technical documents with/from engineering firms and integrate vendor information from contractors and subcontractors into the design solution.
- Participate in project design/model and constructability reviews as well as attend site visits and coordination meetings.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks and issues that may impact project timelines and budget.
- Execute schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product and independently plan, budget, and schedule deliverables and model reviews within the discipline.
- Work closely with other technical disciplines, operations, and construction to provide the most cost-effective solutions.
- Provide project updates, reports, and cost-reduction suggestions to the executive team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- 10+ years' experience in civil design of heavy industrial facilities in the chemicals, petrochemicals, mineral processing, or downstream oil and gas industries.
- 15+ years’ experience working as a civil engineer on similar projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in civil engineering project management software.
- In-depth knowledge of civil engineering and construction specifications, standards, and codes.
- Knowledge of construction materials and construction details and techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of technical responsibilities of other disciplines associated with capital projects.
- Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
- Ability to resolve design issues and communicate clearly with subordinates, other engineering disciplines, construction, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Great leadership, project management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Availability to perform construction site visits outside of business hours, when relevant.
- Excellent interpersonal and listening skills.
- Strives for continuous self-improvement and learns from others.
