Job description

As a Housekeeping Supervisor, you will be the backbone of our housekeeping team. In this role, together with the Housekeeping Manager, you will assume responsibility for overseeing daily housekeeping operations, inspiring and motivating your team, and ensuring the maintenance of the utmost standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout our establishment. Your ability to excel in a dynamic, fast-paced environment will be essential, coupled with your innate passion for delivering a hospitable experience for our valued guests.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Training and Development

  • Train new and existing housekeeping team members on proper cleaning procedures, ensuring they understand and adhere to all company standards for guest rooms, public areas, and common spaces. This includes proper use of cleaning equipment and supplies, sanitation protocols, and guest service etiquette.
  • Continuously develop your team's skills by providing ongoing training opportunities and mentorship.

Team Leadership and Oversight

  • Oversee the daily operations of the housekeeping team together with the Housekeeping Manager, ensuring efficient task completion and adherence to cleaning schedules. This includes assigning tasks, prioritizing workloads, and monitoring progress.
  • Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and common spaces (including hallways, lobbies, and lounge areas) to ensure they meet cleanliness and hygiene standards.
  • Schedule housekeeping staff shifts, ensuring adequate coverage for all cleaning needs. Be prepared to arrange for replacements in case of absences to maintain smooth operations.

Quality and Guest Satisfaction

  • Establish and maintain high standards for cleanliness, tidiness, and hygiene throughout the facility.
  • Educate team members on the housekeeping standards and ensure consistent implementation.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest concerns and special requests, prioritizing their comfort and satisfaction.
  • Address guest complaints related to housekeeping services, following established procedures and ensuring a positive resolution in line with the Housekeeping Manager and General Manager's expectations.

Inventory Management and Maintenance

  • Monitor and maintain a sufficient stock of cleaning supplies and equipment, including floor cleaners, bleach, rubber gloves, and other necessary items.
  • Ensure proper storage and safekeeping of cleaning products.
  • Report any issues with equipment malfunction or maintenance needs to the Housekeeping Manager and General Manager for prompt repair, minimizing disruption and ensuring guest comfort.

Compliance

  • Ensure all housekeeping staff members understand and comply with safety and sanitation policies within all areas of the facility.
  • Implement procedures to prevent accidents and maintain a safe working environment for both staff and guests.

Health and Safety

  • Proactively support the company's health and safety program.
  • Ensure all team members understand their health and safety responsibilities as outlined in the company's Health and Safety Policy, and monitor compliance with its procedures.
  • Be aware of and comply with safe working practices as laid down in the Health and Safety Policy applicable to your workplace. This includes awareness of any specific hazards.
  • Report any building, plant, or equipment defects according to hostel procedures.
  • Ensure immediate reporting of any accidents involving team members, customers, or visitors according to established procedures. Promote awareness of these procedures across the division.
  • Attend mandatory fire and relevant health and safety training.
  • Be fully conversant with and abide by all fire and health and safety rules. Ensure effective management of these aspects across the operation.
  • Maintain thorough familiarity with all risk assessments for your departments, COSHH regulations, and fire/bomb procedures.
  • Ensure your team stays up-to-date and proactively manages their responsibilities in these areas.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven years of experience in housekeeping or a related supervisory role
  • Previous experience in a similar role within the hospitality industry is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of sanitation regulations and best practices.
  • Familiarity with housekeeping equipment, cleaning products, and maintenance procedures.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal, and team management skills
  • Ability to lead by example
  • Strong attention to detail, with a high standard for cleanliness and a commitment to providing exceptional guest service in all areas.
  • Proficient in prioritizing tasks, managing time effectively, meeting deadlines, and working independently to solve problems.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift heavy objects as needed.
  • Flexibility to work on a shifting schedule, weekends, and holidays as required.
