The main responsibilities of a mechanical engineer are the design and development of machinery. This could include a whole host of projects and include working on electric generators, turbines, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) and refrigeration among many others.
In fact, HVAC systems are vital in data centre construction, they are required to cool the servers and control airflow and humidity. These HVAC systems are worked hard in this environment due to the scale and their responsibility to keep the centre operational.
Responsibilities:
- Knowledgeable in both Mechanical and Electrical services specifically in ACMV system, Hydraulic system, thermodynamics refrigeration cycle. Competent to perform various engineering calculation (i.e. cooling load calculation, hydraulic calculation, etc.), equipment sizing (i.e. chiller, pump, cooling tower, air handler) and selection of equipment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that mechanical systems integrate seamlessly with electrical, network, and other data center systems.
- Develop and manage project plans for new data center construction and retrofits.
- Ensure compliance with local, national, and international codes and regulations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with equipment vendors and contractors.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in mechanical systems design and operation.
- Construction Support: attend site meeting, review Mechanical service shop drawings and as-built drawings, prepare RFIs, and turnover documentation. Provide technical support to Project Manager for mechanical engineering matters such as conduct site quality check on installed mechanical systems, identify site defects, verification of system performance.
- Commissioning: critique data centre commissioning scripts to ensure they accurately test all modes of operations. Witness key commissioning tests on site.
Requirements:
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and 3+ years of relevant experience in Data Center Construction Project.
- Ability to read and interpret schematic drawings and technical manuals required.
- Has the knowledge of MS Office, AutoCAD, BIM 360 and Project Management software.
- Demonstrated experience with Mechanical, HVAC and Plumbing Systems.
- Completed coursework in mechanical systems fundamentals, Cooling Systems, Ventilation System, Hydraulic/ Plumbing System, BMS and EPMS.
- Data Center Training Certification preferred.
- Fluent in English is a plus.
