Job description

Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for a Youth Justice Worker in the Black Country area.

The Youth Justice Worker will support youth females who offend, and are known to either the Youth Offending Service or West Midlands Police.

This is a full-time 37.5 hours (Mon - Fri), permanent role, offering a salary of £25,268.25 - £27,858.29 per annum, based on experience. Travel will be required.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidence based one to one intervention, group work and advice in a variety of locations such as estates and Youth Offending Service Estates with an aim to deter young people from offending behaviour.
  • Ensure that all interventions delivered are age appropriate, child led to reduce risk and culturally sensitive to young people.
  • Offer general awareness of healthy/unhealthy relationships, confidence & self-esteem, managing & understanding emotions, promoting resilience and managing challenges, in order to address the pathways to offending.
  • Create a safe, age-appropriate space to work with young people, encouraging them to share their experiences, thoughts and feelings through peer support. Work will include sensitively challenging experiences and decision making and working to develop early identification of emerging issues, coping strategies, seeking help and knowledge of healthy relationships and support networks.
  • Provide emotional and practical support and advocacy to young people with a holistic approach. Support and methodology should be specific/varied to meet the young person's needs including risk assessment and management plans with a goal to reduce the risk level and increase safety.
  • To make referrals and work together with other agencies to create the best outcomes for young people and, where appropriate, their families, including domestic violence and abuse support services, perpetrator programmes, drug and alcohol services and mental health and wellbeing services.
  • Ensure that cases are sensitively managed, case management systems are accurately completed and risk assessments and support plans are in place and approved. In particular, ensuring that a clear safety and support plan has been created prior to school holidays and relevant referrals for support have been made.
  • To ensure effective communication across all services and ensure that the service manager is informed at all times of any issues that impact effective service delivery.
  • To work within the organization's quality assurance framework and ensure we provide a quality service to victims of abuse.
  • To develop innovative ways of working with young people based on good practice and evidence-based research.

Person Specification

  • GCSEs English and Mathematics - Grade C or above.
  • Experience of working with children/young people, acknowledging safeguarding concerns and responding appropriately.
  • Experience of handling a caseload.
  • Experience of working with/signposting families with complex needs, such as mental health and substance misuse.
  • Experience of using risk assessments and appropriate interventions tools to manage and identify risk.
