Job Description: Yard Operative – Steel Manufacturing

Key Responsibilities:
- Material Handling: Safely load, unload, and move steel products within the yard using forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment as necessary.
- Steel Preparation: Cut, sort, and organise steelwork to meet project requirements, ensuring precision and adherence to specifications.
- Stock Management: Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing materials, ensuring the yard is well-organised and stock levels are appropriately monitored.
- Quality Control: Inspect steelwork for quality and compliance with industry standards before dispatch or further processing.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring a clean, hazard-free yard environment.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance checks on yard equipment and report any faults or issues promptly.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the production team, drivers, and other departments to ensure seamless operations and efficient order fulfilment.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Previous experience working in a steel manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Proficiency in handling and operating yard equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes (forklift license required & full UK driving license).
- Knowledge of steel products, including their handling and storage requirements.
- Strong understanding of health and safety practices in an industrial setting.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Familiarity with BS EN 1090 standards or similar industry regulations.
- Basic understanding of welding or fabrication processes.
