Job description

Yard Operative

Scope of Role

As a Yard Operative you will be responsible for moving steel and aluminium around the workshop and yard areas. The role will involve manual handling, as well as using equipment to load and unload deliveries and ensuring the yard is kept well presented.

Rate of pay - £22.50 per hour (13 Weeks probationary period CIS / Umbrella)

Shifts - Friday to Sunday, 07:00 - 17:30
You will be required to complete 3 weeks initial training with the day shift (39 hrs Monday - Thursday 7am -5pm)

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Carry out workshop / yard activities in accordance with issued work instructions
  2. Complete paperwork as specified
  3. Loading/unloading delivery vehicles
  4. Prepare fabricated materials to be sent for galvanising and/or dispatch
  5. Ensure loads are checked before dispatch to ensure items are packed and secured and match paperwork
  6. Check in bolts against delivery note
  7. Inspect galvanised materials, take remedial action and report any significant concerns
  8. Carry out “check erection” operations
  9. Maintain high levels of housekeeping in all areas
  10. Carry out manual activities within physical and technical capabilities

Authorities, Interface, Reporting and Supervision

  • Line report to the Shipping Manager
  • Liaise with yard / workshop operatives, as required

  • Health, Safety & Environment

    1. Work in a safe and responsible manner taking reasonable care of your own and other people's health and safety
    2. Follow and adhere to all training received
    3. Ensure that HSEQ policies and practices are adhered to
    4. Report any accidents, incidents and near misses to the QHSE Manager
    5. Wear and look after issued PPE/RPE
    6. Maintain records and traceability throughout the fabrication process
    7. Not to deliberately interfere with or misuse anything provided to maintain safety and to comply with legislation
    8. Participate in risk assessments and comply with controls specified in the risk assessment
