Overview
Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the nursing assistant performs various duties in the care and treatment of patients in accordance with established methods and procedures of the Medical Center.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct care to patients in accordance with their individualized care plans
- Assists patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, oral care, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Assists in transportation and transfer of patients, ensuring comfort and safety during movement
- Monitors and records vital signs, intake and output, and other patient data, reporting any abnormalities or concerns to the nursing team
- Completes accuchecks as directed
- Ensures accurate and prompt documentation
- Assists with patient hygiene and comfort measures, including turning and repositioning patients to prevent pressure ulcers
- Supports patients with feeding and hydration needs, adhering to dietary restrictions and assisting with mealtime activities
- Collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care and promote positive patient outcomes
- Completes hourly rounds to assigned patients and anticipates patient needs, responding promptly to call lights and patient requests
- Provides emotional support and companionship to patients and their families, demonstrating empathy and compassion in all interactions
- Maintains a clean and organized patient environment, including changing bed linens, stocking supplies, and ensuring cleanliness of patient rooms
- Adheres to infection control protocols and hospital policies and procedures to maintain a safe and sanitary environment for patients and staff
- Participates in ongoing education and training to enhance skills and knowledge in patient care and hospital procedures
Qualifications
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

- Knowledge and experience with electronic health records
Credentials
- Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in Delaware OR completion of an approved Patient Care Assistant course (Concepts of Patient Care)
- BLS – Basic Life Saving Certification
Education
- High school diploma preferred OR current high school student with CNA license (work schedule in compliance with the State of Delaware Department of Labor Regulations)
